MEDIA STUDIES AS EVALUATION-
FOUNDATION PORTFOLIO

How does your product use
or challenge conventions and
how does it represent social
groups or issues?
The movie opening I created
is based upon a social issue
about blackmailing on
phone which is not taken
seriously by most of us. The
opening shot is about a girl
who is busy surfing on the
internet when she gets an
unknown call which she
ignores.
She also gets some messages which scare her
but instead of telling anyone she peacefully
sleeps and then she is murdered by an
unknown person.
Usually murder scenes are very dramatic with
background music but in my video there is no
such background music and the murderer
murders the girl with a pillow.
The genre of my movie is suspense and
mystery. I challenged the convention as the
murderer in my movie is wearing a white
cloth while in other movies murderers or
killers usually wear a black coat and have
some sort of weapon in their hands. The
ending leaves a mystery as the killer leaves
without showing their face .
The opening of my movie
consists of a girl who after
getting calls from an unknown
number ignores it and is busy
getting ready when she gets a
message which scares her.
Though she gets scared ,she
chooses not to tell anyone and
goes to sleep without showing
much care.
The social issue represented here is that teenagers
now a days no longer care about anything. Just like in
this picture ,the girl got scared by the messages but
she chose to sleep instead of taking some major step.
How does your product engage with audiences and
how would it be distributed as a real media text?
Since my film is a low budget one,it was very
difficult to find a distributer. After
researching about different small and large
ditributors ,I came to the conclusion that I
want Universal Studios to be my film’s
distributor. Since Universal studios accepts all
genres and are willing to distribute both high
budget and low budget films.
They are also interested in all kinds of genres
like romantic, action , comedy ,horror and so
on.Universal studios are very wellknown all
over the world which makes it easy for the
producers to distribute and make their film a
success.
Since Universal studios is a big name,it will
help me to attract audiences more easily.The
Unique selling point of my film is that it has no
background music.
How did your production skills develop
throughout this project?
Through out this project,my production skills
have developed a lot.I learnt different camera
angles for eg 180 degree
I had a lot of difficulties as well, such as having
jumps in between the video,noise in the
background and a lot more
I also learnt how to edit a video.
Taking different shots and combining them
was a very difficult task for me as I had to take
a lot of different shots and there were jumps
in between.
How did you integrate technologies in
this project?
I have learnt a lot of different things
throughout this project.I learnt the use of
blogging and made a blog. I learnt how to use
a tripod, different camera shots such a mid
shot , rule of thirds and depth of field.
I have also learnt to use tumblr due to
submission of my assignments.
I learnt how to edit a video through windows
movie maker and also how to check ratings of
different films on ImDb.
