2. By watching different documentaries at the
beginning of the year this gave me and my group a
clear understanding of what to include and what
documentaries should look like when watching
them we watched....
The Devil Made Me Do It “The Music Bizz”:Meatloaf That thing Lara Croft
I then did some research myself and watched another two documentaries to see if
they were any different and I watched The Bat Man Shooting and Girl Modal these
two documentaries also included the same codes and conventions as the others
three.
3. Chosen theme
• Our documentary used allot of conflict to keep the audience
thinking and to get them evolved for example we said sweets
are very popular and keep people happy and allot of people
love them but the we also had someone who told us how bad
sweets were for you and your teeth and how we shouldn't
really eat to many ,an example of this would be in the bat
man shooting documentary when Americans love using guns
for gun festivals, protection etc and they can be bought over a
counter but the government are trying to put a ban on them
for all the bad shootings that have taken place so this shows
conflict ad keeps the audience interested.
4. Type of our documentary
Our documentary is a mixed documentary because it includes
a range of different things such as
observation,interviews,archive material, graphics we made
our interviews observational as we made sure that the person
we were interviewing looked at the person asking the
questions instead of at the camera as we noticed that's what
happens in most documentaries we also decided to use some
archive footage from Willy Wonka and the chocolate factory
as we wanted to relate our documentary in with another well
known topic. We also used a range of different shots and
cutter ways so it did not get boring as well as using a narrator
who was known as the “Voice of God” because there heard
but not seen.
5. Graphics
Depending on what side the person is sitting on depends on what side the
graphics do for example “Greg” the dentist is sitting on the right so the graphics
will go on the right hand side at the bottom and in the batman shooting picture
the graphics are on the bottom right hand side because he is sitting on the left
the graphics usually last up to a few seconds and only appear the first time that
person is seen. The same font and size will always appear throughout and will not
change it is very important that the font stands out.
6. Construction of an interview
As a group we discovered that all interviews are framed in a medium close up and they
are usually a third down the screen. To the right is an interview from That Thing Lara
Croft he is in a medium close up and he is a third down the screen he is looking
towards the left and not to the camera this is observation so to the left is an interview
from our product of a trampolinist she is also a third down the screen and she is sitting
on the right looking over to the left so again its observation this is were it looks like the
camera isn't there and someone's just watching it.
7. Archive from a professional Archive from our product
documentary
Archive footage is used in most
documentaries so we decided to use it in
ours we used some from Wily Wonka
and the chocolate factory we used it
Marlin Manson the devil made me because it was good to add to the
do it fan pulling two fingers up to conflict of chocolate being really good! It
the camera shows the audience also helped add depth. We chose Wily
how his fans aren't very nice people wonka as its a well known film for both
witch creates conflict adults and children and as soon as
people here about it the think sweets.
8. Sound
• Our documentary had a “voice of god” witch was done by a
woman that fitted our target audience as she had a good clear
formal voice she also sounded professional and new what she
was talking about.
We used a music bed for the opening
titles to anchor the audience in we
chose lollypop by mica this was
because it is a well known song and
as soon as you think of it, it brings
sweets to mind
