Attracting the audience media
1.
2. I attracted my audience by using the
conventions I found whilst researching my
thrillers, such as leaving the villain a mystery
such as in The Usual Suspects (Bryan Singer,
1995) where the identity is kept a secret all the
way through, until the very end.
3. I found that the thrillers I researched often had
the thrill of the chase within them, along with a
problem that needs to be faced by the main
character, which is something that I wanted to
put within my product.
4. Within my thriller, I also set up the problem
with the female character looking at the
paper, which says ‘They know’, setting up the
problem of what that character is going to do
because someone knows something that
threatens her, as she shows a startled reaction
to it, keeping the audience engaged with the
thriller, as I tried to keep to the conventions of
real media products that I researched.
5. I also wanted to attract my audience by
involving mystery and not giving away too
many clues to the narrative, giving the thriller a
narrative enigma, so the audience would want
to keep watching my thriller because of
questions that needed to be answered.
6. I also wanted to attract them by using a variety
of interesting locations to tell the narrative. I
did this by showing places like the Lake
District, which stood in for Scotland as a
location.
