3. Benefits of Team Teaching
• Creates effective, fun learning
• Teachers can use their knowledge effectively together
• Allows for shared ideas including enrichment and
differentiation
• Breaks up the monotony of one person doing all
instruction
• Creates many spontaneous teachable moments
• Teachers can work with smaller groups and can target
next steps learning (some children have strengths in
different curriculum areas)
4. What does team teaching look like?
• Inquiry Unit – Learning about Learning
• Mixed across the team, co-operative groups
working in different classes to brainstorm
“How we learn and understand the different
strategies that can help us”
• E.g. Six thinking hats, Thinkers Keys
• Home room
• Pastoral care
5. SOLO Taxonomy
• (Structured Overview of Learning Outcomes)
• Helps to become reflective learners and
extend thinking
• It makes it easy to identify and use effective
success criteria
• It provides feedback & feedforward
6. What is a Super Ruru?
• Learning reward programme for the Rua
Team
9. Rua Team Blog
• Sharing our work
• http://ruateam.blogspot.com
10. Homework
• Reading (Children this age should read or be
read to for at least 20 minutes everyday)
• Spelling – Essential Word list
• Maths – basic facts
11. Fostering Independence
We are encouraging children to develop
independence by:
• Unpacking their own bags
• Getting equipment ready for the day
• Packing up and meeting parents downstairs
(This is a safety issue because stairs need to be
one way traffic at the end of the day)
• The Home & School book is a great system for
keeping in touch
