Athina Fragkouli, RIPE NCC Roundtable Meeting, 19 February 2014 Liaising with the EU Parliament • Proposed specific amendments to the text in coordination with the RIPE community • Liaising with specific MEPs to improve our understanding on process and goals of legislation • The RIPE NCC and RIPE community participants sent a letter to MEPs with the amendments expressing their concerns ! 4

Athina Fragkouli, RIPE NCC Roundtable Meeting, 19 February 2014 A Great Example • First time the RIPE NCC was involved in such a process • Input was welcome by MEPs and national authorities, even at a later stage of the discussions • Increased mutual understanding (authorities and technical communities concerns) • Towards a solution that shows responsibility of states without jeopardising the Internet architecture • Building on RIPE NCC’s ability to engage and respond to relevant legislative proposals 6
