“In three words I can sum up everything I've learned
about life: it goes on.”
― Robert Frost
3. THE “ALMOST” NUCLEAR WAR OF 1995
On January 25, 1995 a Norwegian scientific rocket sent off Russian President Yeltin’s
nuclear briefcase. The malfunctioned early warning system made the Russians
believe that it was a missile sent from a US submarine to attack and seek war on
Russia. The alert was sent to a Russian general that was on duty and the alert was
put on its highest level . The threat was so close that the countdown system was sent
into action but before it could be triggered there was an emergency teleconference.
But finally after eight minutes; two minutes before a response was made the mistake
was realized and it was called off . Shows how dear life is when it could have been
taken away before many of us were able to open our eyes.
4. DEATH OF A DICTATOR:LIBYAN DICTATOR MOMMAR GADHAFI
On October 21, 2011 Libyan dictator Mommar Gadhafi was killed by rebel forces in his
hometown of Sirte. For many weeks before his death he was asked by the United
nations to step down as leader of Libya and on national television when asked to step
down by a news reporter ,he laughed in her face. He believed that his people would
stand up for him and keep him safe but this was not the case on October 21. He was
stabbed repeatedly and final shot with his own gun. His body was layed in the streets
of Sirte followed by days of celebration. This is important to my generation because
it shows how many people when joined together can overthrow evil but sometimes
with the wrong strategies can be frowned upon.
5. THE GREATEST INVENTION IN THE HISORY OF MAN: FACEBOOK.
On February 4 , 2004 Mark Zuckerberg a Harvard student launched the facebook, at first
he kept it as a campus website but soon spread to many other big name universities like
Stanford. Within a few months big named companies were knocking at Zuckerbergs door
with stock options and partnership agreements. Its first investment was for $500,000 dollars
with help from Peter Thiel for exchange of 7% of the company. Since then Facebook has
became a global phenomenon. It stretches from California all the way to Japan and even
caused the “death of myspace”. To my generation this is one of the craziest and most random
thing that could benefit peoples lives, many countries don’t have clean drinking water or
roads but facebook has found a way to reach them. This truly is a story of anything is possible
when your talents and smarts are used for good.
