3. BRIEF HISTORY
Established in 1922
First established as a technical institute
Started with only 14 day students in carpentry, building and mechanics.
On July 1, 1970 it became an independent National University
Changed from faculty based to collegiate system on 1st July 2011
Officially transformed into collegiate system on 30th December 2011

Has mainly 3 gates that is;
The Main gate opposite Wandegeya flats and Ham towers on Bombo road.
The Western Gate on Sir Apollo Kaggwa road facing Makerere Kikoni.
The Eastern Gate on Bombo Road opposite Maimood hostel.

The Main building. Known to take care of most of the important activities in
the university.
