Circuit of culture
 Cultural studies uses contemporary cultural
artefacts to study the society and its culture.
 “Primarily culture is connected with the
production and the exchange of meanings…
between the members of society or group”- Hall.
 Any cultural artefacts has to be undergone the
examination of five basic elements. And this this
five elements together constitute ‘circuit of
culture’ the term ‘circuit of culture’ was given by
Paul du Gay et al in 1997.

All the companies works with these aspects and many more features.
Identity
Almost in all the mobile companies advertisements youth and
professionals are given more importance
The projected and targeted identity of the companies are
students, youth and businessman.
What does it means to have mobile ?
It was time when to have mobile is identity of Intellectuals,
rich, educated, even at present time it is same.
It becomes trend to have smartphones for youth, and it also
becomes an object of showing richness…
Large numbers of the employees in mobile
companies are youngsters, and related with I.T.
Generally the age group of the employees are
between 20-50 years.
People look at the workers of ‘apple’ like
company with respect.
“The phone was not just communication tool,
but away of life”- Steve Jobes.
Production
Apple, Nokia/Microsoft, Samsung, Motorola etc. has its own production policies..
Cultural study asks below questions
How the recruitment done?
How much profit does company make ?
What are the policies are in place for ?
Does management mix with the workers?
Does company cater only Indian miliue?
Is it truly Indian firm?
Recruitment in mobile phone companies are
done by company interview and placement.
Most companies have hire and fire policies.
Profit of some popular companies in 2014
are as below.
Nokia/microsoft- $ 4.6 billion
Apple- $8.5 billion
Samsung- $4.74 billion…
Consumption
C.s asks some questions regarding consumption
Who are the buyer of the mobile phones? People from every class, from child
to aged..
It depends upon class, either smartphone or simple mobile, people buy
mobiles according to their need.
it ask that why would you buy a particular mobile?
E.g. Samsung for its battery backup, strong network, and in budget.
Now a days in society there is craze for upgrading mobile phones..
Regulations
As government of India banned selling of Xiaomi
mobiles in December 2014 as it has duplicate and fake
unique id..
There are committee to handle all these matters and it
has its own policies. With this it has import and export
policies..

Conclusion
 The circuit of culture is perhaps the most
thorough examination of any cultural
artefact.
 As we can see it covers a range of issues and
themes- from the question of media
representation to the construction of
identities in culture.
 Now days mobile has passed through this
examination and it becomes a part of culture.
