Practise reading techniques with leaflets: students will have to use context and not get obsessed with every single word if they want to plan a trip with real brochures.

Leaflets are always meaningful and catch our students’ attention since they
conceive them as real material. Moreover, this type of realia is free and can be
found or downloaded from many tourist info offices (for instance
www.visitlondon.com). You can also go to your local tourist office and make
them plan the same activity for a group of students which are visiting them in a
couple of weeks.
Level: all levels
Materials: Leaflets, brochures
Aim/Content: Scanning for info (reading) and group discussion

Procedure:
1. In groups, students plan a trip for their 2nd of BAT mates to London.
2. Each group is given a handout with all the information they have to
think about: dates, means of transport, accommodation, budget, places
to visit… The must complete it as they agree on each issue.
Variations:
3. You or the spokesperson explain their proposal to other groups, so that
different classes get familiar with London. They will choose the trip
which suits them best.
3. You can also decide the best trip by comparing the different budgets. It
will be a good idea to bring a real travel agency proposal to compare
places and money.
