A student conducted an experiment to see what would happen if celery was placed in red water. They predicted the outside of the celery would turn red but discovered the red coloring was absorbed inside and could not be wiped off. The results showed that the water traveled up through the inside of the celery stem to the leaves, just as water travels up through plant roots. The student learned patience and the scientific process through this experiment and wants to do another experiment involving parachutes and space.

5. 4. What happenedThe celery turned red on the inside of the tips. Then it turned red everywhere!!!!!!!! I tried to wipe the red off but it wouldn’t come off. I knew it was on the inside then.

6. 5. ResultsThe water traveled up the stem in the inside of the celery to the leaves. Plants in the ground have roots that the water travels up to get to the leaves.

7. The EndExperiments are fun but you have to be patient. You have to go through five steps when you think like a scientist. Each step teaches you something. It makes me like science more and next time I want to do an experiment with parachutes and space.
