Preliminary Evaluation Sheet<br />Quality of holding shot steady:<br />I think that for our first attempt we managed to keep the majority of our shots relatively steady. However when filming Leon walk across the room the camera was slightly shaky. However this could be easily avoided through the use of a tri-pod, which we will include next time we shoot. <br />Quality of framing shots:<br />During the task we successfully used many framing shots such as the reverse shot between Mohammed and Leon. We also stuck firmly to the 180 degree rule. However in some shots, such as the sot of Mohammed at 0.51 seconds, we failed to include his entire head due to incorrect framing of shots. To avoid this in future we could practice our shots, or repeat them several times to make sure we get the best one.<br />Quality of Shooting Material Appropriate to the task set: <br />During our preliminary task we were required to show someone walking through a door and include a small amount of dialogue, we also included all the correct shots and techniques required which were: -180 degree rule – Reverse Shot –Match cuts. We used these methods to try and recreate a realistic conversation between Mohammed and Leon, however when doing our real film we must do research into different camera shots to make our film seem as realistic and professional as possible.<br />Quality of selecting Mise En Scene:<br />Our preliminary task was about a conversation between two boys talking of an upcoming test and there attempt at revision. Therefore I believe the location of an empty hall was ideal. The emptiness of the hall was representative of Mohammeds feeling of isolation and demonstrates the extent to which he cares for his schoolwork, as he is the only there. <br />Besides this our task did not contain the use of mise en scene. This could be combated in the future by planning possible connotations we could send to the audience through the use of all types of mise en scene (props, lighting, costume) not just location. <br />Quality of editing so that meaning is apparent to the viewer:<br />An example of editing we used was when Leon and Mohammed touched hands early on in the extract, and the use of editing was when we edited the scene to make sure only there hands were in the picture. We did this to demonstrate the friendship between the pair and I think it was used effectively as a mechanism of editing to create meaning. We also used editing at the end of the clip when we showed Mohammed’s pen fall slowly to the ground. The use of slow motion was to put emphasis upon the meaning of the exam to Mohammed. We also used sound effects on the clip of the pen falling to the ground, and the use of reverb was also to show what the exam meant to Mohammed as it prolonged the experience of the pen falling to ground creating an echo of the original sound. To ensure a high quality we will spend a prolonged period of time on editing when it comes to our real film,  I will also make sure that I practice editing before it comes to the real film to ensure I have the right skills to effectively edit my film. <br />Quality of using sound with images and editing appropriately for the task set:<br />I think as far of the use of sound we could have utilized its effects more appropriately to create the best film, however we did not ignore it. The use of reverb on the pen as it fell in slow motion was a good example of sound, editing and images. However in future I think that the use of sound should be looked at more importantly and be used in more depth for example through the use of music. To ensure this happens in future I will always plan ahead and make sure that I use sound appropriately. <br />Quality of positioning and movement of actors:<br />The actors were not intentionally positioned in any particular place, I think this was a mistake as we could have used the positioning to create connotations. In the future I will effectively make sure I plan ahead of time and make sure that I know the location very well. This will allow me to effectively position my actors in desired places. <br />Quality of group planning, meeting, organization:<br />I think that our group effectively planned and were well organized which allowed us to shoot our preliminary task fairly quickly. We managed to the complete the task in the time given which allowed more time for editing. However in future I think that create the best film possible we should meet more frequently and discuss more filming options to create the best film possible.<br />Group Dynamics:<br />Our group worked well together and we were able to communicate our ideas to each other effectively. This allowed us to quickly and effectively make our film. However there were a couple disputes/confusion about certain camera angles. This can be easily avoided in future by extensive planning.<br />Other points of evaluation:<br />Overall I think our group worked well together however the main problem point was our lack of equipment, which limited our skill when attempting to film, such as trying to film Leon and Mohammed’s hands and trying to keep the camera steady. To avoid this, in future we will use a tripod.<br />
