Our 1st Coordinate Plane Test :
Wednesday, Jan. 21; The Test will include the following:
 Functions, Domain, Range
 Ordered Pairs
 Standard & Slope Intercept Forms of a Line
Khan Academy:
As you’ve probably realized,
there is no KA this week.
However, there will be one for next week,
and will be posted shortly.
Warm Up
1. What is 250% of 18?
3. 24 is reduced by 25%; what number could you
multiply 24 by to get the answer?
2. 7|x−10|−9 = 54
4. A simplified number is .45 more than 50% of 3/5.
Qual è il numero?
5. The sum of 3 numbers is 112. The second number is
25% larger than the first, while the third number is 75%
larger than the first. What are the numbers?
x + 1.25x + 1.75x = 112 ; x = 28; x1 = 35; x2 = 49
For #1; Mentis Arithmetica

Function Rules f(x)..g(x)..h(x)
……….
Standard Form of a linear equation: Ax + By = C
A, B, & C are all constants and..
a.) A and B are not both zero.
b.) The largest exponent is not greater than 1
Change to Standard Form:
4y + 2 = 6x
9
Graphs of y = b
Where b is any number
y = b are always horizontal lines,
and are functions
Graphs of x = a
Where a is any number
x = a are always vertical lines, and
are not functions
10
Graphs of y = mx
y = "a number times x"
y = mx lines will always go through
the origin, and will be at the angle
shown.
Graphs of y = mx + c
y = "a number times x plus c"
y = mx + c are similar in shape to y = mx,
but do not go through the origin.
11
Defining Linear Equations
HOW DO I KNOW IF AN EQUATION IS
LINEAR?
If an equation is linear, the result is a
straight line.
12
Solutions to Linear Equations
To ask "Is the ordered pair (1,3) a solution to the equation
y = 10x - 7?", is the same as asking, " Is the point (1,3) on
the line of y = 10x -7"? How do we know?
Determine whether the following ordered pairs are solutions to
the equation y = 10x -7
a.) (1,3) b.) (2, 13) c.) (-1,-3)
13
Finding the x-and y-intercepts of Linear Equations
The path of the defender crosses the path of the thrown
football.
In algebra, what are x- and y-intercepts?
What does it mean to INTERCEPT a pass in football?
14
The x-intercept is where
the graph crosses the x-
axis.
The y-coordinate is
always zero.
The y-intercept is where
the graph crosses the y-
axis.
The x-coordinate is always
zero.

15
What do you notice about the value of ‘C’ above?
9
5
1. (3, 0)
2. (8, 0)
3. (0, -4)
4. (0, -6)
1. (-1, 0)
2. (-8, 0)
3. (0, 2)
4. (0, 4)
What is the y-intercept of
x = 3?
1. (3, 0)
2. (-3, 0)
3. (0, 3)
4. None
We are going to watch a series of short videos. Your task is to
graph what happens in the video. Each action is 15 seconds
long, and the video is repeated again at half speed.
The x variable is given on each graph. You will add the y
variable before watching the video. Please number your
graphs, matching the order of the video watched.
