CITIES OF REFUGE PRESENTED BY JOY JOSEPH MUNDUKOTTACKAL KONKANI CHRISTIAN (BRETHREN) ASSEMBLY
CITIES OF REFUGE We might have a strong consolation, who have Fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us: Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which entereth into that within the veil; Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek . (Heb.6: 18-20) CITIES OF REFUGE (References-Ex.21:13; Num.35; Deu.4: 41-43; Deu. 19; Joshua. Ch.20; 21: 13; 21; 27; 32; 36; 38)
God of infinite wisdom planned of the cities of refuge
( Num.35:9 )
Anyone who killed a man accidentally could run for refuge ( Num.35:11 )
Where he had a place of refuge from the avenger of blood ( Num.35:12 )
There he could live until the death of the high priest
( Num.35: 28 )
Then was he free to go his own home. ( Num.35: 28 )
(Reveals the infinite wisdom of God)
CITIES OF REFUGE WHAT THE CITIES OF REFUGE WERE ? Deu.19: 4 And this is the case of the slayer, which shall flee thither, that he may live: Whoso killeth his neighbor ignorantly, whom he hated not in time past; Deu.19: 6 Lest the avenger of the blood pursue the slayer, while his heart is hot, and overtake him, because the way is long, and slay him; whereas he was not worthy of death, inasmuch as he hated him not in time past. Were six Levitical cities anybody who killed a man accidentally could flee to find refuge (An O T shadow of how one can be relieved if fallen to sin)
Joshua 20: 7 And they appointed Kedesh in Galilee in mount Naphtali, and Shechem in mount Ephraim, and Kirjatharba, which is Hebron , in the mountain of Judah .
Joshua 20: 8 And on the other side Jordan by Jericho eastward, they assigned Bezer in the wilderness upon the plain out of the tribe of Reuben, and Ramoth in Gilead out of the tribe of Gad, and Golan in Bashan out of the tribe of Manasseh.
Heb.6:18-20 We might have a strong ( Bezer=strength ) consolation, who have fled for refuge ( Golan= Exile ) to lay hold upon the hope set before us: Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul ( Hebron= fellowship ), both sure and steadfast, and which entereth into that within ( Kedesh=Sanctury ) the veil; Whither the forerunner is for us ( Ramoth= high place ) entered, even Jesus, made an high priest ( Shechem=Shoulder ) for ever after the order of Melchizedek .
