    • Born in Bloomington, Illinois and raised in Kansas City, Missouri, Richard Scott is considered one of America’s foremost entrepreneurs. The son of a truck driver and JC Penney clerk, Rick is known as an innovator in business, health care, and politics, and has developed a reputation in the health care industry for providing affordable, high quality services through a patient-centric approach to cost and care.

    • Rick is the founder of two health care providers, Columbia Hospital Corporation and Solantic Corporation, which builds and operates urgent care facilities throughout Florida. Rick also started Conservatives for Patients’ Rights, an organization founded to defend free market principles in health care that focused successfully on defeating President Obama’s government-run public option plan

    • Rick resides in Naples, Florida with his wife Ann, his high school sweetheart. They have been married for 37 years and have two grown daughters. Rick is a Christian and has attended church his whole life. He is currently a trustee and member of Naples Community Church, which he helped start in 2006

    • Throughout his career, Rick has been involved in a variety of charitable activities including serving on the National Board of the United Way from 1997 to 2003. From 1999 to 2003, Rick worked with World Vision to create a primary health care system in Bunyala, a poor area of Kenya.

    • In 1993, Rick initiated a scholarship program for high school graduates of his Kansas City high school and he funds a scholarship to one low income student each year at SMU Law School. Rick also funds an entrepreneurship contest at George Washington University, the school where his daughter received her bachelor’s degree in Business Administration.
  • 9. RICK SCOTT ON ACCOUNTABLITY IN ACCOUNTING
    • Rick will institute Accountability Budgeting. He will make each state agency set annual goals for every dollar they spend, then measure their performance against those goals and hold them accountable for their outcomes.
    • Rick will force the bureaucrats to justify the way they spend our tax dollars. Holding them accountable will help eliminate waste, increase efficiencies and eliminate ineffective program
  • 10. ON BORDER SECURITY
    • Rick believes border security is an economic and national security issue
    • Rick is opposed to amnesty and will fight amnesty for lawbreakers
    • Rick supports measures like the Arizona law that allow enforcement of already existing laws
    • Rick believes those who immigrate to America must come here legally, play by the rules and respect our laws
  • 11. EDUCATING FLORIDA’S WORKFORCE
    • Believes in accountability in education
    • Believes in school choice, including vouchers and charter schools
    • Supports merit pay.
    • Supports eliminating teacher tenure for new teachers.
    • Supports homeschooling for parents who feel this is the best option for their children
  • 12. ON ENERGY INDEPENDENCE
    • Will fight to ensure that any future offshore drilling does not negatively impact Florida’s beaches
    • Believes that energy independence is essential to America’s economic vitality
    • Believes it is a bit ridiculous that foreign countries can drill for oil a few miles off Florida’s shores while, our citizens are getting hammered by high gasoline prices.
    • Supports expansion of nuclear power, use of alternative fuels and off-shore drilling
  • 13. ON ENVIRONMENT
    • Is committed to conserving Florida’s natural resources
    • Is committed to preserving the Everglades
  • 14. ON FAMILY VALUES
    • Believes in the sanctity of human life
    • Is pro-life. He is opposed to abortion and believes that Roe v. Wade should be overturned
    • Believes that marriage should be between one man and one woman
    • Believes that we should appoint commonsense judges to protect our rights, our laws, and religious liberties by enforcing the law .
  • 15. ON HEALTH CARE
    • Rick led the fight to defeat President Obama’s government-run public option, as the founder of Conservatives for Patients’ Rights (CPR)
    • A proven record of lowering health care costs while improving quality
    • Believes that our health care system should focus on choice, competition, accountability and personal responsibility.
    • supports a state constitutional amendment in Florida that prohibits the federal government from imposing President Obama’s individual mandate, to protect Floridians’ freedom to control their health care choices
  • 16. ON SECOND AMENDMENT RIGHTS
    • Is an ardent supporter of the Second Amendment and a hunter
    • Is a member of the NRA and a strong supporter of Florida’s sportsmen
    • Believes that we should appoint commonsense judges who will adhere to the Constitution and will NOT legislate from the bench
  • 17. PUTTING FLORIDIANS BACK TO WORK
    • Florida needs an outsider who is not part of the political establishment.
    • Has been successful in business both nationally and here in Florida: He has created jobs, cut budgets, and put the customer first. He will bring the same vision to Tallahassee.
    • Will create jobs by keeping taxes low and limiting job killing regulations
    • Will ensure that Florida has an educated workforce that will allow Florida to attract new business and good paying jobs
  • 18. ON TAX AND SPENDING
    • Florida needs an outsider who is not part of the political establishment to put our house in order.
    • Will run our state government more like a business
    • Believes in limited government and low taxes and he will govern based on those principles
    • Believes that the government should treat your money as if it is their own not a slush fund
    • Believes that the government should live within its means just as Florida businesses and families do
