Third Semester 2013 A
Observation Format
On this format we’re going to mention many things that we had observed on the
school that we had visited on the date of May 9, 2013. The first thing that we had
observed was that the class was using techniques of behaviorism and constructivism
because the teacher didn’t introduce the topic based on their previous knowledge; the
teacher went straight to the topic of the agreements and disagreements in order to start
quickly the class. Also the teacher didn’t motivate the students to produce the language
because their level wasn’t good enough to produce it. Other point that we had observed
was that the teacher never gave feedback on the mistakes that the students were
having; and while giving out the instruction he use the second language, but when the
students did not understand the instructions he was explaining to the students in their
native language. The next point that we observed was that the teacher was not prepared
for the class; the material that he was using was not enough to teach that topic.
Furthermore, students were not learning innately, they were having trouble with the
reasoning; but even though they did not translate any text given. Another important point
was that the students were disorganized and were not paying attention because the way
that the teacher was explaining and the task that was design for the class was totally
boring for the age of the students. On the other hand, we had observed that the teacher
gave many statements to put in practice and clarify doubts presented from the topic
about agreements and disagreements. He also used the students’ personal feelings as
a tool to try to reflect on the statements given. Also, the teacher at first when explaining
the topic step by step, we had observed that the students had a better understanding
while explaining it that way. We also had observed that the students presented many
problems while producing the language, they couldn’t identify the correct form of
speaking the right way of agreements and disagreements, they were presenting a
couple of errors like “they are agree” or “I’m agree”. And finally we had observed that
the students were exchanging points of view in their native language.
Some factors that affect the students while learning the language specially
teenagers are motivation, students most of the time don’t care of learning a second
language because they are focused on their personal activities. What also affects
students is the self confidence because they are scared of producing the language in
front of their classmates; sometimes they are bullying each other. On the other hand, we
think that there are some factors that promotes the learning, some of them are the ability
to memorize because we consider that critical period hypothesis were the children
learns better and faster than adults.
