Guided Practice
1. Social Order
1. Make a list of AT LEAST
5 every-day examples for
each purpose of
government.
2. In 4 sentences, explain
why one of your examples
is important for having
government.
Relate your answer to the
purpose of government you
are working on.
1. Stop signs
2. Police Officers
3. Speed Limits
4. Cross walks
5. Laws
6. Courts
We need to have laws in order to maintain social
order, because if we didn’t people would do
whatever they wanted to.
If people did what they wanted to, then we would
always have to hide our things and watch our backs.
If we have to spend all of our time watching our
backs, we could never do anything fun.
This is because they would try to take our things.
Guided Practice
1. Social Order
3. In 4 sentences, explain
what life would be like if
government did NOT
provide the service you
gave in your example.Focus
on the purpose of
government that you are
currently working on.
If we did not have laws, then the world would be
a scary place.
I would be fearful because I could be shot, or
killed because somebody just felt like doing that
to me.
Laws prevent most people from hurting others,
because they know they will have to go to jail
and suffer consequences.
Without consequences, the world would be a
chaotic place that I would not want to live in.
Therefore, we need government.
