3. What is most important in BI Success
Overall result: resounding feedback that [1] BI Strategy is fundamental to BI Success, followed by [2]
BI Architecture and [3] Modeling
Job Title: Business owners ranked Strategy as exclusive to success. Clear evidence that Strategy
increased with seniority, but remained a fundamental driver of success
Company Size: Again a big stress on BI Strategy. Small, large and enterprise saw a benefit to building
a COE, but medium companies did not. Medium companies gave a higher priority to BI Architecture
Job Type: Buss develop. Stood out alone with Architecture as the only priority, and IT & Product
placing all their weight on Strategy
Gender: Both genders predominantly voted Strategy as the main criteria of success. Women equally
distributed standards, architecture and modeling, whereas men placed more importance on
Architecture and less on Standards & governance. Women did not vote having a COE, men did.
Age: The 18-24 group surprisingly gave the highest priority to Strategy, which dips down with the 25-
34 group again picks up with the 35-54. 18-24 feel success is based on strategy and standards. 25-34
strategy, Architecture, BI-COE,; and the 35-54 – Strategy, Modeling, Architecture, Standards followed
by COE.
Comments: Strategy is imperative for BI Success. Followed by Architecture and modeling. Women
seem more inclined towards planning and men more towards a body that defines standards (COE).
Business units think Architecture is fundamental to success.
