Background Information:
For several years, scientists and individuals worldwide have questioned the morality,
physical impact, experimental results, liberty of animals and emotional effect of animal testing
and vivisection. Vivisection is the involvement & usage of non-human animals in experiments
and projects to resolve human questions, hypothesizes, and conflicts.
During these years, scientists have encountered additional uses for animal
experimentation. Some of the reasons in which animals are used for testing include: biomedical
research, safety of food, ensuring safety of cosmetics, testing drugs such as antibiotics, HIV
drugs, cancer, and even household products. However, the direct result of animal testing is
physical and/or psychological harm.
Animal testing promotes animal cruelty, harm , and deprivation of animal rights. Animal
Cruelty is a major con of vivisection and is a traumatizing experience for non-human animals.
Animals are sadly burned alive from flame throwers, experience purposeful brain tramuas, suffer
brain damages, isolated & locked in small cages, dissected, deprived from food or water, intake
chemicals such as botulism ( a type of food poison), and killed.
Another one of the many reasons in which people find it controversial is because it
discusses the equality or dominance of non-human animals and human beings. Inquirers,
analyticities, scientists, activists, and individuals believe that animals should be tested instead of
human beings. However, it goes against the rights & feelings that play a vital role in the
experimentation. An instance of right that is deprived of animals is- respect. Respect is violated
in a plethora of cases including testing. This can be best explained morally, ethically, and
symbolically through the words of physician, Hippocrates: "The soul is the same in all living
creatures, although the body of each is different."
Currently, there are reforms being made and alternatives as proposals to prevent the harm
of animals in animal testing. Also, organizations are working hard to eliminate, all together,
animal testing to prevent any form or amount of harm to animals. Some countries, in addition,
have banned animal testing such as France.
In summary, animal testing is a form of animal- included research that negatively impacts
animals globally. It can be determined that animal testing is unrighteous, immoral, and evitable
through the usage of alternative testing.
