2. Welcome to 2rd Grade! 2nd grade is an amazing year for your children/students. This presentation is a brief introduction of myself and the academic curriculum your students will be learning this year.
3. All About Me Background Born in Southern Illinois. Graduated from Florida International University (Miami) with a Bachelors degree in Business Administration. Working in the marketing department of a major airline for 11 years as a training Instructor moving to Atlanta in 1998. Graduated from Brenau University with a Masters degree in Early Childhood Education. I have a reading and technology specialist endorsement. Experience This is my sixth year teaching at Findley Oaks Elementary.

5. Ms. Ferguson’s Goals Provide/model/facilitate academic tools/support/strategies needed to accomplish student success. Make available a supportive learning environment. Make learning fun and offer a variety of learning styles that enhance creativity and promote higher level thinking. Encourage students make new friends and discover/enhance interests. To create a life long love of learning. Integrate technology into the classroom.
6. Standards/GPS Instruction Second grade teachers plan as a grade level and implement the Georgia State Standards into all academic areas. Expectations are set high, promoting student achievement at its best.
7. Reading We will be learning able the main idea, authors purpose, settings, compare and contrasting, details and sequencing, transition words, beginning, middle and endings, summarizing, predicting outcomes, inferencing, fact and fiction, genres, and reading strategies.

9. Math We will be learning about numbers and operations, measurement, data, multiplication and division, fractions, geometry. These units include time, shapes, estimation, fact families, skip counting, three digit addition and subtraction plus much more!
10. Social Studies Units are titled Before There Was a Georgia, Georgia’s Beginnings, Personal Finance, and Native Georgians. The students will locate major topographical features of Georgia and describe how these features define Georgia’s surface. The students will describe the cultural and geographic systems associated with the historical figures such as James Oglethorpe, Tomochichi, and Mary Musgrove. The students will define the concept of government and the need for rules and laws. Civil rights, personal rights, and personal finance.

12. Classroom Rules We will raise our hands when we want to speak. We will stay in our seats. We be good listeners. We will use indoor voices. We will be kind to others.
13. Homework Homework is a review of the days lessons. One language arts worksheet and one math worksheet daily. Should not take more than 20 minutes. Students should do their homework independently first before asking for help. 80 minutes of reading is required per week. Tech Thursday will be online homework. Weekly blog assignment.
