  • There is a time and a place for everything.

    Sometimes the statistic is a side show and spicing things up for entertainment is fine. Infographics are a good example of this.

    But sometimes people need to see the data to be persuaded that your insights are supported by fact. In this case, the data needs to be well chosen, well visualised, clearly sourced... If you present data over simplistically in this setting, you will lose the faith of your audience.

    In other words, 'Beware the burger graph'
