This is a presentation about young people and alcohol by one of my ESL Advanced students. She's done it to illustrate her speaking task on that topic.

1. Where are youngpeople? WHERE ARE YOUNG PEOPLE?

2. Sale of alcohol is forbidden to youth under 18. Young people have easy access to alcohol in shops. On average, teens start drinking at 13 years of age. 6/10 adolescents regularly drink. 23% young people consume alcohol every weekend. HOW DO YOUNG PEOPLE SPEND THEIR FREE TIME?

3. Why do youngpeopledrink? Curiosity To feel good, reduce stress and relax. To feel older. To fit in

4. Alcohol effects “Binge drinking”: lose coordination, slurred speech, throw up, hangover, headache,… Drink driving. Unsafe sex. Emotional problems: anxiety, depression Health problems: damaging organs such as liver, heart and brain.

5. Parents’ attitudes and solutions Clear communication about the negative effects of alcohol. Spend more time withfamily. Better relationship between parents and the adolescents. More restrictive legislation: to arrest, to fine,… To make youngsters aware at home, at school,… Alternative ways of entertainment.
