2. OTT Engine Turning Tool
The OTT Systems are lightweight, portable units
that facilitate accurate single user inspection of
gas turbine engines. They are therefore ideal
complementary products to borescope and
videoscope equipment, enabling:
• Accurate engine turning and blade positioning
• Increased efficiency & speed of inspection
• Single user intuitive operation
• Reduced cost of engine maintenance process
The OTT series includes the OTT
Basic, OTT Advanced and a wide
range of engine specific
adaptors. Each engine
adaptor connects the
OTT system to the hand
turning point or starter
motor position on the
engine gearbox.
OTT Basic The OTT Basic is a low cost, easy to use system that can
rotate the engine spool in either direction at speeds from
10mpr (minutes per revolution) to 1.5mpr. The hand
console displays the speed and angle of rotation of the
motor head and gives the option to continuously rotate at
a pre-determined speed. The operator is able to pause
the motion at any point throughout the inspection if a
closer examination is required. The footswitch allows
hands-free operation, rotating the engine in the pre-determined
direction for the duration of the
footswitch depression, allowing full control of
the endoscope operation.
3. The OTT Advanced offers a number of additional benefits
to aid operators with Gas Turbine inspections. Supplied in
a portable system case from which it is designed to be
operated, the OTT Advanced is fully compatible with the
comprehensive range of OTT engine software modules.
The system is fully operable via the hand console, which
contains a clear backlit display giving full instructions for
navigation through the operation menu and system status.
Variable Speed & Dwell
The operator can select the rotational
speed of the engine from 10mpr (minutes
per revolution) to 1mpr. The engine can
be continuously rotated for quick
observation or a Dwell time can be set,
halting each blade in an optimum position
allowing for more detailed visual
inspections.
Blade Tagging
During inspection of each stage of the
engine, individual blades can be ‘tagged’
if a closer look is required. Once the
entire stage has been inspected the OTT
Advanced will rotate the engine bringing
the suspect blade back in to view. The
tags can then be stored on a removable
SD memory card and recalled during the
engines next inspection.
Backlash memory
By pre-determining the amount of
backlash within an engine, gearbox and
OTT adaptor, the OTT Advanced can
accurately rotate the engine in either
direction by taking the backlash level in to
account. Once backlash is set, the user
can store the backlash characteristics for
each specific engine inspected. This
reduces the time taken to set up for the
engines next inspection by recalling the
data from the SD memory card.
Video Overlay
The engine stage and blade number can
be displayed over a video image of an
inspection, giving vital inspection details
when reviewing inspection images or
recordings. Connection is gained via BNC
or S-video and is compatible with both
PAL and NTSC TV formats.
LAN Control
The OTT Advanced can connect via
Ethernet cable to a Local Area Network,
allowing remote control of the system. By
connecting via a web browser, the remote
operator can take full control of the
system via a virtual Hand console.
Engine specific data
The OTT Advanced is compatible with a
number of engine specific software
modules which contain engine
characteristic data. Each module provides
the OTT Advanced with stage & blade
quantities within the engine. The operator
simply selects the area of the engine to be
inspected from an intuitive menu and the
data is loaded, giving assurance that no
blade will be missed during an inspection.
