Addition/Subtraction

 Set time every day – 10-10:30am
 Role of class teacher
 Identified needs:
- Using more complex sentences (very short
sentences currently being used)
- Extending bank of high frequency words
- Using oral language to help elaborate ideas
in writing
 Meetings

with the ALL/ALiM teacher and
class teacher
 Intervention group observation
 Blog
 Work coming home

  • 1. ALL – Accelerated Literacy Learning ALiM – Accelerated Learning in Maths
  • 2.  The Government’s goal in the schooling sector is to raise student achievement so that every student has the appropriate skills and knowledge they need to succeed in the twenty-first century. “Every child achieves literacy and numeracy levels that enable their success.” 85% of students at or above curriculum level by 2017
  • 3.  Focused, targeted small group intervention  Daily lessons over 10 weeks  Supplementary – not instead of  Close monitoring of the impact  Needs based and adaptive
  • 4.  Accelerated learning is learning at a rate faster than class mates progressing at expected rates, in order to catch them up.
  • 5.  Work at the level of the individual student  Provide intensive learning opportunities for students who are not achieving in literacy and numeracy at the expected level for the National Standards  Provide additional support over and above regular classroom teaching  Focus squarely on the student  Have accelerated success
  • 6.  Supplementary NOT replacement to the daily classroom programme  Parent engagement  Data driven – teaching is targeted at student gaps as identified
  • 7.  Two groups – In class and withdrawal Withdrawal Group  Year 3 students – every day for 30 minutes 9:059:35am   Identified needs: Multiplication and Division Basic Facts In Class Group:  Year 5 students – Set time every day for 15 minutes  Identified needs: Place value and Addition/Subtraction
  • 8. 1 group in class for 30 minutes  Children from rooms 9 and 11 will come to room 10  Set time every day – 10-10:30am  Role of class teacher  Identified needs: - Using more complex sentences (very short sentences currently being used) - Extending bank of high frequency words - Using oral language to help elaborate ideas in writing
  • 9.  Meetings with the ALL/ALiM teacher and class teacher  Intervention group observation  Blog  Work coming home
