2. Definition
According to Christopher Knapper (2006)
« lifelong learning is sustainable learning in that
it relies on self-directed individual initiatives
rather that handing down of of knowledge from
experts or a central authority » (p. 1).
Knapper suggests six teaching strategies to
encourage lifelong learning.

• Achievable Challenging Tasks
4. Student Activity and Task Performance
• Uses tasks to help students learn as
opposed to citing facts
5. Meaningful Interactions
• Encourages students to see educators as
role models for continued learning.
• Educators play a vital role in
encouraging students to develop key
skills that encourage lifelong learning.
7. Authentic Assessment
• Provides students with realistic
constructive feedback to encourage and
improve effectiveness.
• Peer and self-assessment are also
included.
8. Integration of Information and Skills
• Encourages educators to integrate
information and skills from various fields
in order to prepare students for
scenarios that can occur in the real
world
9. Achievable Challenging Tasks
• Students need realistic, challenging
tasks to encourage continued learning.
• Motivates students to learn without the
burden of an unrealistic and
unneccessary workload.
