As early Microsoft HoloLens partners, Dave Curry and Eric Rak were invited to speak at Build, Microsoft’s annual conference, to provide useful insight for team leaders preparing to begin working with HoloLens.

- 23. LEARNING FROM THE EXPERTS Microsoft has had people working with holograms for three years now, and there is a lot we can learn from their experiences. Pay careful attention to the demos and note what works for you, and what doesn’t. 05 WEAREPOP.COM Studythe existing demos.
- 26. Developa storyline. YOUR FLUID GUIDELINE Tell the story of your idea and rewrite it as it evolves. Remember, it’s not a scripted screenplay, it’s improv. 06 WEAREPOP.COM
- 28. Draw storyboards andsketch ideasout. OLD SCHOOL Don’t be afraid to start with pen and paper, or cardboard boxes, sticks and glue. Holograms (appear to) consume physical space, so why not start in the physical world? 07 WEAREPOP.COM
- 30. Prototype rapidlywith low-fi holograms. PRIMITIVES ARE YOUR FRIENDS Getting objects in the device and interacting with them is incredibly critical, so don’t delay. Simple shapes will help you find the right direction no matter how complex your concept is. 08 WEAREPOP.COM
- 32. BeOKwith nothavingall ofthe answers. 09 YOU’RE GOING TO MAKE MISTAKES Don’t overthink your tasks because you’re not going to get them right the first time, or maybe the second time either. - 34. Listento your developers. 10 COLLABORATION IS KEY And so is performance. You’re full of amazing ideas and to make them come to life (at a minimum of 60fps), you’ve got to work closely as a team. WEAREPOP.COM
- 36. Make decisionsas ateam quickly. 11 FORWARD MOMENTUM It’s really easy to get hung up on repeatedly trying to fix something that isn’t working. Be quick to abandon flailing ideas and stay open to trying something that might work. WEAREPOP.COM

Stay focused. 13 HUG YOUR GUARD RAILS Holograms represent a brave new world and (of course) you can think of a million things that would be incredible in your concept, but don’t loose sight of your goal and don’t let “we could add this” distract you and your team from completing a build.
