“Governments tend to use social media
for several reasons. First, the public is already very present and
familiar with social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter.
These platforms provide an opportunity for governments to “leap-
frog”, bypassing having to set up their own platforms. Second,
these are cost- efficient as social media initiatives do not require
high investment costs, as they typically ride on commercial and
non-governmental platforms”.
