Kings of Leon started as an indie rock band performing in small venues. As their popularity grew, they signed with several record labels, eventually working with a major label, Sony Music Entertainment. While it took them time to find success in the US, their album Youth and Manhood sold over 765,000 copies worldwide, with over 400,000 of those sales in the UK alone. They have been marketed online through sites providing access to industry professionals, at launch parties targeting their rock audience, and with their album artwork prominently displayed on their website and in merchandise. Their image has matured over time from typical 90s teenage rock band attire to more formal suits and styled hair as they gained fame and a mainstream audience
