Innovation can take may forms:
› Not necessarily a new technology or app
– Change in practices, e.g. Jeff Bezos’ 2 pizza team size rule
› Can originate internally or externally
– Internal innovation may need to be “validated”
› Delicate dance around risk appetite
– What happens if it goes wrong/away?
– Basically, what’s our Plan B?
› Scaleability & transferability
› Relationship with incumbents

Conclusions:
› Edtech apps all need data about people,
courses, modules, timetables etc
– Standardised approach being developed for Jisc’s
Learning Analytics service
› Institutions need to be given confidence about
innovative new apps / developers
– What’s my SLA & who do I call?
– How do I know I can I trust you?
› Ways that Jisc could help:
– Trusted hosting for services & data
– Brokerage on terms and conditions / partnerships
– Model for building on institutional innovation
