HGHS Word of the Day
• Pick up the WORD OF THE DAY and be on your way to a great GLADIATOR day!
• Find power point with daily words @ hghs.dadeschools.net/reading
• Share word of the day with students every morning during 1st and 2nd block
• Require students to keep vocabulary notebook
• Ask students to write down word of the day in their notebooks and choose sentence that best helps them
remember the meaning of the word
• Vocabulary notebooks will be checked by English teachers every Friday
HGHS Common Graphic Organizers
• Use a common graphic organizer per month in order to help students make the connection between cross
curricular content
• Students will be informed that for the entire month, they must use this method of organization to make
sense of all of their notes/work in all their classes
• Teachers from ALL disciplines will reinforce the use of this method of organization in class
• Monthly graphic organizers will be shared with faculty at the monthly faculty meeting
HGHS: Seventh Period “A” Powerhouse Reading “A”cademy
• Join us Monday through Thursday from 2:30 – 3:30 as we prepare our 9th and 10th graders for the Reading
FCAT
• You will be paid your hourly rate (from $23.00 to $32.00 depending on your degrees and the number of
hours you have worked either in hourly or through adult education)
• All teaching materials and pacing guides will be provided to you
