Dispensa software per la stampa 3D (in italiano)
1. Mini-conferenza per gli studenti
sulle stampanti 3D a basso costo
Martedì 16 Aprile, 2013 – ISIS Alighieri, Gorizia
Lista di risorse gratuite disponibili in rete
A cura di: Gaya Fior, Jonathan Gatti, Carlo Fonda, Enrique Canessa
ICTP Science Dissemination Unit (SDU)
2. oggetti personalizzabili on-line
“Webapps” gratuite che permettono la personalizzazione di oggetti e la loro stampa
(a pagamento) a richiesta.
www.twikit.com personalizza medaglie e trofei
www.n-e-r-v-o-u-s.com crea splendidi oggetti artistici e
bigiotteria ispirata a forme organiche e
strutture cellulari naturali
http://www.local-guru.net/blog/
pages/cookiecutter-editor
uno script scaricabile per generare
tagliabiscotti stampabili in 3D
SCULPTRIS
Mac/Win
Very easy to use virtual sculpting application that replicates the act of
modeling clay. Starting out with a sphere and using easy to
understand tools (pinch, smooth, flatten...) you can create objects
with or without symmetry and export them as OBJ files. Suitable for
organic objects.
pixologic.com/sculptris/
SKETCHUP
Mac/Win
Very good 3d modeling software, more suitable for geometrical objects
than organic ones. Big community behind it and many
instructional videos and tutorials. With the addition of a plugin
it can import STL files to modify them and export directly to
STL format.
www.sketchup.com
STL import/export plugin:
Download it at https://github.com/SketchUp/sketchup-stl and for instructions see:
http://sketchupdate.blogspot.it/2013/01/stls-for-3d-printing-in-and-out-of.html
4. PUBLISH YOUR DESIGN
Browser based modeling tool
Easy interface, exports in STL but the exported files can give problems with some
3d printing software.
www.publishyourdesign.com/modeler
3DTIN
Browser based modeling tool
Gives the possibility to combine simple shapes and manipulate them
with many modeling features.
www.3dtin.com
SHAPESMITH
Browser based modeling tool
to save the objects you need a free registration. Starting
with primitive objects like cubes and cones and using basic boolean operations
including union and subtraction you can create a model that can be exported to STL
format.
shapesmith.net
AUTODESK 123D
Mac/Win or browser based modeling tool
Easy interface and a large number of features. Does not give the
possibility to import your own files and modify them.

AUTODESK INVENTOR FUSION
Mac/Win
Prosumer version of the expensive Autodesk inventor, this software si
feature-rich and not a good choice to start if you don’t have previous 3D modeling
experience. Now evolved into Autodesk Fusion 360, currently (april 2013) in beta
testing.

5. BLENDER
Mac/Win
Very powerful 3d animation and modeling package. There are many
tutorials and videos to start using it but the user interface is not
intuitive and can be discouraging.
www.blender.org
FREECAD
Mac/Win/Ubuntu/Fedora
Parametric 3D modeler with a steep learning curve. Good
documentation, tutorials and community to help understand the software.
www.freecadweb.org
OPENSCAD
Mac/Win/Linux
It does not focus on the artistic aspects of 3D modeling but instead on
the CAD aspect. Works like a 3D-compiler that reads a script file that describes the
object and renders the 3D model from this script file, giving the designer full control
over the modeling process.
www.openscad.org
K3DSURF
Mac (up to Tiger)/Win/Linux
A program to visualize and manipulate Mathematical models in three, four, five and
six dimensions, it supports Parametric equations and Isosurfaces. Can export in OBJ
http://k3dsurf.sourceforge.net
6. archivi di modelli in 3D
THINGIVERSE
Hundreds of printable objects generated by users for 3d printing and laser cutting. Most of the
content is suitable for 3d printing but it’s best to check out if it has been printed by other users and
with what results.
http://www.thingiverse.com
AUTODESK 123D
Lots of objects you can download for free after signing up. Files are already in stl
http://www.123dapp.com/Gallery/
3D CAD BOWSER
The online 3D models exchange resource for CGI graphic designers and CAD/CAM/CAE
engineer.Has many cars, animals, architecture and more… As always, free download in many
formats after signing up. Not all of them are suitable for printing.
http://www.3dcadbrowser.com
GRAB CAD
No need to sign in to download the files, there are many files but just a portion of them would be
3d-printable.
http://grabcad.com/library
SHAPEWAYS
Wonderful designs but almost nothing is free. You can pay for downloading some of them or just
ask them to print them out
http://www.shapeways.com/gallery
7. 3D WAREHOUSE
Hundreds of models of all kinds, but you should search with care to find printable ones.

3D VIA
Small repository of 3d objects you can download for free after signing up.
