Best practices
A picture is worth
thousand words
Use Sybase Power Designer to design the Enterprise architecture, business process, data model,
metadata, data flow.
Elementary,
my dear Watson
Create a Metadata repository using SAP Info Steward, collect metadata from Sybase Power designer, SAP
BW etc. This will help in end to end lineage and impact analysis.
Know your data Profile data first using SAP Info Steward which will suggest rules to cleanse.
Create once, use
many times
 DQ rules created in SAP Info Steward during profiling reused in SAP Data Services ETL dataflows and
then invoked in SAP MDG UI
 SAP DS ETL jobs used for one time cleansing and load to MDG can be utilized for SAP ECC data
migration.
Utilize best of breed
 SAP Data Services to be used as the real time data quality engine for SAP MDG for validating address
and other data as well as data cleansing, match and merge (de-duplication) etc.
 Enrich master data using 3rd party external services like Reuters, D&B – use them in the ETL jobs or
MDM workflow.
Build bridges
 Use SAP IS for embedded data quality scorecards in SAP MDG
 Use SAP IS for data quality remediation bridge with SAP MDG
 Utilize out-of-box metadata bridge between Sybase PD, MDG, BW & IS.
In memory is faster
than database
Use SAP HANA for quick processing and faster scale up of SAP Info Steward as well as SAP MDG. It is
also useful for better search and de-duplication.
