  • 2. What is online marketing?
    • It’s marketing...
    • But probably not like you’re used to
    • Your customers are more responsive...
    • And it could be more resource intensive (than say, a print ad)
  • 3. Bases to cover?
    • Search Engines(Google, Yahoo, MSN/Live)
    • Social Media(Digg, Twitter, Facebook, etc)
    • Banner (Affiliates, Retargeting, Ad Buys)
  • 4. Search Engines
    • Most Effective & Measurable (for now)
    • PPC campaigns across big 4? (Clickable)
    • SEO should come naturally (Dont buy links)
    • Tips: Press Releases, Link Bait(Hilary Swank), Blogging, Related content, relationships.
  • 5. Social Media
    • Probably most resource intensive & hard to measure.
    • Are you monitoring twitter(Tweetdeck, Twhirl, Twitterific, etc)?
    • Are your products/services/blog posts often shared (TwitThis, AddThis)?
    • Services to check out: Digg, YouTube, Twitter, MySpace, Facebook, Tumblr, Delicious, etc.
  • 6. Banner Ads
    • Most common, easiest to measure.
    • Retargeting works.
    • Affiliate advertising can work .
    • Ad buys - generally dont work (in an e-commerce context, in my experience)
  • 7. All of that was great, but....
    • You NEED to have an excellent user experience when you get a visitor.
    • All of the effort outlined WILL NOT matter if you don’t measure - analytics is key.
    • Tools to help increase monetization: Google Analytics, GetClicky, UserFly, CrazyEgg & ClickTale.
