  2. 2. What is online marketing? <ul><li>It’s marketing... </li></ul><ul><li>But probably not like you’re used to </li></ul><ul><li>Your customers are more responsive... </li></ul><ul><li>And it could be more resource intensive (than say, a print ad) </li></ul>
  3. 3. Bases to cover? <ul><li>Search Engines(Google, Yahoo, MSN/Live) </li></ul><ul><li>Social Media(Digg, Twitter, Facebook, etc) </li></ul><ul><li>Banner (Affiliates, Retargeting, Ad Buys) </li></ul>
  4. 4. Search Engines <ul><li>Most Effective & Measurable (for now) </li></ul><ul><li>PPC campaigns across big 4? (Clickable) </li></ul><ul><li>SEO should come naturally (Dont buy links) </li></ul><ul><li>Tips: Press Releases, Link Bait(Hilary Swank), Blogging, Related content, relationships. </li></ul>

Social Media <ul><li>Probably most resource intensive & hard to measure. </li></ul><ul><li>Are you monitoring twitter(Tweetdeck, Twhirl, Twitterific, etc)? </li></ul><ul><li>Are your products/services/blog posts often shared (TwitThis, AddThis)? </li></ul><ul><li>Services to check out: Digg, YouTube, Twitter, MySpace, Facebook, Tumblr, Delicious, etc. </li></ul>
  6. 6. Banner Ads <ul><li>Most common, easiest to measure. </li></ul><ul><li>Retargeting works. </li></ul><ul><li>Affiliate advertising can work . </li></ul><ul><li>Ad buys - generally dont work (in an e-commerce context, in my experience) </li></ul>

All of that was great, but.... <ul><li>You NEED to have an excellent user experience when you get a visitor. </li></ul><ul><li>All of the effort outlined WILL NOT matter if you don’t measure - analytics is key. </li></ul><ul><li>Tools to help increase monetization: Google Analytics, GetClicky, UserFly, CrazyEgg & ClickTale. </li></ul>
