April 15, 2024
This report aims to analyze the salary and role distribution within our sample of software
developers. We will examine salary trends by country according to contract type and
average salaries by roles based on experience.
Sample Characteristics
The analyzed sample comprises 1521 records, collected from salary data sourced from Arc()
and hiring databases from the past years by TS. These data represent a diverse and
representative selection of the software developer community in Latin America.
Regarding geographical distribution, data from 19 Latin American countries are included. It is
noted that 7 of these countries have a higher representation in the sample, while the
remaining were grouped under the "Others" category to facilitate analysis and interpretation
of results.
45 different roles regarding developer roles were identified in the sample. However, it is
highlighted that most of these roles are concentrated in the six most hired roles. In contrast,
less frequent roles were grouped under the "Others" category to simplify analysis and
enhance result comprehension.
These sample characteristics provide an important contextual framework for the subsequent
data analysis, allowing for a deeper understanding of salary and role distribution in the
software development industry in Latin America.

When analyzing the work experience of developers in our sample, we observe a diverse
distribution in terms of seniority. We find a significant number of developers at senior, junior,
and mid-levels. This distribution reflects the variety of talent and experience in the software
development industry in Latin America. Below is a graph illustrating this distribution for a
clearer visual understanding.
Salary Distributions
Analyzing salary distribution is crucial to understanding the structure and equity of salaries
within an industry. In the context of our sample of software developers in Latin America, it is
crucial to examine how salaries are distributed and what factors may influence these
distributions.

The data reveals that the average salary in our sample is 30,470.02 USD, with a standard
deviation of 56,817.32 USD. The minimum recorded salary is 500 USD, while the maximum
reaches 800,000 USD. The 25th percentile is at 7,000 USD, the 50th percentile at 16,300 USD,
and the 75th percentile at 36,000 USD. These data provide an overview of salary distribution in
our sample.
In this report, we will explore how these distributions behave when stratified by other
important variables, such as roles, experience levels, contract types, and countries. By
analyzing these distributions, we will be able to identify trends, disparities, and influencing
factors that may affect compensation in the software development industry in Latin America.
Salary Distribution by Roles and Seniority
To better understand salary distribution in our sample, we have analyzed average annual
salaries by roles, distinguishing between different levels of seniority: junior, mid-level, and
senior. The following bar graph shows the salary range between 10,000 USD and 70,000 USD
for each role, allowing us to visualize any significant differences in salaries derived by seniors
compared to salary values for juniors and mid-levels.
Get a free demo today https://www.teamstation.dev Teamstation AI © 2024. All rights reserved.
The bar graph presents average annual salaries by roles, segmented by seniority levels:
junior, mid-level, and senior. Each bar represents a specific role in the IT sector, and the height
of the bar indicates the average annual salary range for that role. The colors of the bars
represent the different levels of seniority: junior in blue, mid-level in green, and senior in red.
We observe that salaries for seniors in any IT area tend to be significantly higher compared to
salaries for juniors and mid-levels, reflecting the valuation of experience and expertise in the
industry. However, it can also be noted that salary values for juniors and mid-levels do not
differ considerably from each other, indicating a relative closeness in terms of compensation
for these levels of seniority.
Analyzing salary distribution broken down by experience levels and contract type is crucial to
understanding salary trends in the industry. Below, we will examine how salary varies based
on experience level and contract type.
Salary Distribution by Countries and Contract Type
To examine salary variation in our sample, we have created a graph showing the distribution
of salaries by countries, considering common contract types in Latin America.
Get a free demo today https://www.teamstation.dev Teamstation AI © 2024. All rights reserved.
The graph represents average annual salaries and shows a range ranging from 5,000 USD to
30,000 USD. However, if we consider the 75th percentile, we can observe ranges extending
from 10,000 USD to 50,000 USD, indicating a significant salary gap and wide variation in
salaries.
The graph shows the distribution of average annual salaries by country, segmented by
contract types: full-time, part-time, and freelance. Each country is represented with a bar in
the graph and the height of the bar indicates the average annual salary for that country. The
colors of the bars represent the different contract types.
We observe that countries with higher salaries, such as Brazil and Chile, have average
salaries above 25,000 USD, while Colombia, Mexico, and Argentina are around 30,000 USD. The
salary gap is evident, especially when considering the range between the 25th percentile and
the 75th percentile, where salaries vary significantly between their maximum and minimum.

This suggests that factors such as national economy, cost of living, and labor demand may
influence salaries in each country.
Salary Distribution by Seniority and Contract Type
To delve deeper into the analysis of salary distribution according to seniority levels and
contract type in Latin America, we have conducted a detailed examination of available data.
Below is a more comprehensive analysis of each seniority level:
Salary Distribution for Junior Developers
In this graph, we observe that salaries for junior developers tend to be concentrated in the
lower range, around 20,000 USD or less. Full-time contracts are the most common. However,
we can also observe some cases where full-time contracts allow for higher salaries, up to
30,000 USD or even 40,000 USD.
Get a free demo today https://www.teamstation.dev Teamstation AI © 2024. All rights reserved.
This suggests that, although juniors usually start with lower salaries, full-time contracts can
offer growth opportunities for newly starting workers, leading to a significant increase in
compensation.
Salary Distribution for Intermediate Developers (Mid-Level)
For developers at the mid-level, salaries show an upward trend and are mostly found in a
wider range, from 20,000 USD to 50,000 USD. As for juniors, full-time contracts are
predominant. However, unlike juniors, mid-level developers tend to have a wider salary

distribution, suggesting that additional experience and skills developed over time can lead to
greater variation in compensation.
Salary Distribution for Senior Developers
For senior developers, we observe that salary ranges are significantly more comprehensive,
ranging from 25,000 USD to 100,000 USD. Like in junior and mid-levels, full-time contracts are
predominant. However, the salary distribution for seniors shows more excellent dispersion,
indicating that experience, specialized skills, and level of responsibility can greatly influence

compensation. Additionally, some seniors can reach very high salaries, suggesting a
considerable valuation of experience and expertise in the industry.
Summary
In summary, the comprehensive analysis of salary distribution in the software development
industry in Latin America reveals many significant findings. Full-stack and front-end
developer roles are the most common, indicating a continuous demand for skills in these
areas. Mexico, Brazil, and Colombia emerge as the countries with the highest representation,
underscoring their importance in the regional landscape. Additionally, a marked salary
disparity is observed between different contract types, where full-time developers earn
notably higher salaries. As experience increases, salaries tend to grow, emphasizing the
relevance of professional progression and the development of specialized skills. Salary
differences between countries are also notable, with Brazil and Chile registering the highest
average salaries. Overall, these findings inform crucial decisions related to hiring and
compensation in the software development sector in the Latin American region.
