2. The culture, music, and lifestyle known as hip-hop began in
the Bronx in New York City in the 1960’s. At house parties
and community centres DJs mixed songs from different
records together.
The four elements of hip-hop culture are:
◦ DJ’ing- the art of mixing songs and creating mix tapes to play at parties
and other events or even just for people to listen to through headphones.
◦ Breakdancing- a form of dancing that is usually done with hip hop music
accompanying. The dancing is a floor based form doing moves such as
freezes.
◦ Graffiti- an art form that is usually done on the walls that is considered
vandalism but is also a very creative form of writing and is a way for
people to express themselves.
◦ MC’ing- is another form of expressive art in the rap style, this form of
rapping is usually performed in a battle situation where one person will
say a certain amount of bars and then the other participant will retaliate
throughout this battle the MC’s will rap about things that have happened
in their life and things to intimidate their opponent.

Chris Brown Rick Ross 50 Cent
5. Seen as hip hop originated in America they have influenced the
clothing that is worn by hip hop listeners and so the majority of the
clothing worn is baggy jeans,, baggy t-shirts, snapback caps, high top
trainers and big baseball jackets. These trends are beginning to leak
into the English clothing market, as hip hop becomes more popular,
baseball caps have become very popular all throughout Britain, as well
as high top trainers although other forms of clothing such as baseball
jackets are not as popular, but may be future clothing trends in the UK
as the demand for hip hop clothing increases.
6. The style of hip hop is
closely related to gang
culture and the aspects of
gangs such as graffiti and
music. Although there is
also a strong passion for
dance and beatboxing. It
started in America where
people would get into
groups and rap their bars
to the rest of the group. Or they come together to do dance battles and
express their emotions. That’s what these people like to do, they express
their emotions in a range of different ways, some with dance, some with
graffiti and others with music.
7. In this interview Drake talks about his relations
with Chris Brown after their fight in a bar in New
York City he talks about the guilt that he felt
after starting such a big gang fight between
Drakes people and Chris Browns people
resulting in everyone being evacuated from the
club and told to go home or some taken to the
police station.
He was asked questions about what happened
on the night and whether he started the fight or
whether he was provoked. He says “Brown was
saying things to me that I couldn’t deal with
about my girl Rihanna so I hit him with a bottle
without thinking” and this whole situation began
from there.
From the interview we learn the guilt that Drake
felt and that him and Chris have been spending
time together in the studio and hope to release
a track together in the near future.
The whole style of the interview is very relaxed
and was done while he was travelling on a plane
journey back to his home town of Toronto.
8. The lyrics of many rap music songs glorify drugs, guns and the gangster
lifestyle, but with the long history of murder and violence surrounding some
of the top stars of the industry, the image may be more of a reflection of
their real-life circumstances, than an effort to appeal to a specific audience.
R Kelly P Diddy Tupac Snoop Young
Shakur Dogg Breezy
All of the above hip hop artists have been convicted of crimes to do with
either drugs or violence involving a weapon.
Tupac Shakur was murdered due to a drug related event.

even though it is quite a recent evolving form
of music it has become very popular form of
music that is listened to by millions of
people.
Hip hop has had a number of American
Number 1’s by artists such as Chris Brown
and Drake and these artists have become
exceedingly wealthy from the hip hop music
genre.
