● powerful until mid-1600's

● one of the most temperate climates in Europe
→Northern half=mainly rain
→Southern half=more sun
→Northern east region=cold, rains a lot
→Near the coast=winters:mild, summers:cool

→Mont Blanc(highest in the Alps)
→French Pyrenees(second largest after the Alps)
