Opening
Boy (Sam) is sat under a tree in a deserted park. He’s wearing a black suit and clutching a funeral program in his
hands, this is accompanied by gloomy, depressing music with a slow tempo. On the front page it reads ‘In loving
memory of Emily’ in curly black writing with a photo of her underneath, as he opens it up there is a photograph of
two young children playing under the same tree and we realise it to be him and the girl. As the camera zooms into
the photograph, it becomes the screen and the characters come to life signifying the start of the memories and
beginning of the title sequence.
Title Sequence
The titles begin when the photograph comes to life, accompanied by happy, reminiscing music. The sequence is
made up of a string of memories of the pair in the park; through childhood and the teenage years of their life, before
returning to the opening to show the boy is now alone.
Memory 1
Emily is playfully chasing after Sam, he runs behind a tree, but does not come out the other side, Emily follows him.
Both of them are giggling.
Memory 2
Sam and Emily come running out the other side of the tree, now carrying a kite, they run along trying to get it in the
air, and once this is achieved they stop to watch it fly, both looking at the kite in the sky. Sam takes hold of Emily’s
hand. (Shot zooms to show just their hands)
Memory 3
(Camera zooms back out and they’ve become teenagers). The pair are holding hands and walking through the park
having a playful conversation. She is talking and he is looking at her lovingly.
Memory 4
Sam is leaning against the tree with his knees up in front of him and Emily is leaning against him reading a book. He
is playing with her hair.
Memory 5
Holding hands, Emily is spun under Sam’s arm and falls into him laughing, he picks her up and spins round in a circle
until he collapses under the tree, he kisses her. The camera then circles around the tree and returns to reality by
displaying the original opening scene where it left off.
