Workshop 2: Internship period
1.Consider what to cover at the first meeting with the intern
2.How can you encourage your intern to take his/her own

evaluation, “grade” etc.

Planning the semester
• Preparing for an internship: Have a well-planned introduction, arrange
practical matters before the intern arrives, plan appropriate tasks, have
both short and longer projects, introduce the logbook.
• Half-way review meeting: Let the intern arrange a coffee break/breakfast
meeting within the department to talk about his/her work, discuss larger
projects, allow the intern to arrange visits to local schools to talk about
Tekniksprånget and the employer.
• Conclusion: Plan for a concluding presentation where the intern presents
his/her project to the department/office, evaluate and sum up the
internship with the intern.

  • 7. Tekniksprånget’s goal is to… Inspire young adults to higher engineering education Motivate young adults to complete their studies Clarify the image of an ”engineer”

  • 9. The opportunity 4-month internship that will be mentored by an engineer or similar professional. The target group Young adults (<21) who are qualified to apply to higher engineering studies. (20 000 students/year)

Who needs to be informed? • What support can management provide (HR, CEO)? • What practical preparations need to be made before the start of an internship? • What makes a good supervisor?
  • 23. What makes a good supervisor? • Be accessible and open • Your network of contacts is important – be a door opener! • Introductions pay off – regard your intern as a normal employee! • Coach your intern- counter questions • Weekly or frequent meetings

Workshop 2: Internship period 1.Consider what to cover at the first meeting with the intern 2.How can you encourage your intern to take his/her own initiatives and make contacts within your company? 3.When do you think meetings should be held and what should they involve? 4.What is a good way to conclude the internship? A meeting, evaluation, “grade” etc.

  • 34. Eva’s recommendations to the mentors • Use their creativity and energy • Open up to the “Why?” questions- as this will develop the organisation/team further. • Remember- they are good computer users • Let them be seen- then you will be seen • Collect data and get to know your target group!

Planning the semester • Preparing for an internship: Have a well-planned introduction, arrange practical matters before the intern arrives, plan appropriate tasks, have both short and longer projects, introduce the logbook. • Half-way review meeting: Let the intern arrange a coffee break/breakfast meeting within the department to talk about his/her work, discuss larger projects, allow the intern to arrange visits to local schools to talk about Tekniksprånget and the employer. • Conclusion: Plan for a concluding presentation where the intern presents his/her project to the department/office, evaluate and sum up the internship with the intern.
