2. • I feel that I was successful in attracting and addressing my target
audience for the news bulletin as well as reaching out to an audience
of a much wider range. I was able to focus the content and delivery
of the bulletin in order to be suitable for the school and college strand
who like specific factors in the presenting of news, such as a fast
pace and concise delivery. My stories had appeal on a much wider
range as they were matters which concerned many people, such as
the homeless story in which the angle focuses on the recession. The
mode of address is something which also gave the bulletin appeal in
order to attract my audience as it was clear and precise whilst
remaining slightly informal throughout which is what my target
audience want. I feel that I did a fantastic job in producing the news
bulletin and if I were to make any slight improvements, it would be
to possibly include a different story to the sports story as this was
something which majority of the audience failed to connect with. On
the next page I have conducted a comparison with Oldham
Community Radio’s broadcasting and my news bulletin in order to
demonstrate whether or not I feel I did indeed attract and address the
target audience.

OCR Bulletin My Bulletin
The mode of address for OCR’s news bulletin is
rather formal which is not to dissimilar to mine.
Their news bulletin is provided by the Sky News
Centre and therefore it is expected to be formal
and professional in order to cater for a large
potential audience who may listen to OCR’s
programming.
The mode of address for my news bulletin is of a
formal tone much like OCR’s, however it also
demonstrates elements of informality throughout
in order to be appropriate to address my target
audience. It is appropriate to keep the bulletin
mostly formal in order to reach a wider audience
but I ensured that there were elements appropriate
for my target audience.
With OCR’s programming and news bulletins,
their interviews and vox-pops need to be suitable
for a much more mature audience than mine. With
this in mind, they usually take quotes from a
source such as David Cameron. Whilst this is
similar to what I did with mine, OCR conduct
their interviews much more professionally, thanks
to Sky providing them with their news.
For my interviews and vox-pops, they were a lot
more informal, especially the vox-pops as they
are intended to be suitable for a younger
audience. The vox-pops were conducted with
college students which is something OCR would
not do as it isn’t necessarily appropriate for their
older target demographic. I also ensured that the
interviews were conducted with local people.
OCR’s news stories for their bulletin differed to
mine quite significantly, mainly due to the fact
that their news is provided by Sky. Due to this,
there was a lack of locality to the bulletin as it
was aimed to broadcast nationally to a much more
varied audience. The stories were also much more
serious which is appropriate for their audience,
but it is something which my audience would not
be necessarily interested in.
I believe that with my news stories, one of them
could be considered national news, which would
be the hard news story which regards the increase
of homelessness due to the recession. This is
something which affects the whole country and
therefore is worthy of being national news. The
other two stories are much more regionalised and
aimed towards an Oldham audience which differs
to that of OCR’s news bulletin.
