05/02/2014 We first started this unit of work in February just after finishing off our previous unit. We first started
by research. And finding out the different types of adverts, like Narrative, realist narrative, animation,
Humor… etc.
20/02/2014 We did a lot of work on the research before we started our pre production planning. We looked at
codes and conventions and explained what they are. Then I carried out a case study and chose a
variety of different washing detergent adverts and wrote the codes and conventions about them. We
pretty much just looked at everything which made an advert work.
5/03/2014 We then looked at the techniques used throughout a load of different adverts. Different style adverts
as well. Then the benefits that are offered with certain style adverts like hair and beauty ones.
2. 12/03/2014 As our research was nearly coming to an end we started looking at company’s like BARB, OFCOM and
ASA as they mean a lot in the advertising industry. Then last of all it was rate cards and audience
Classification. This was the research stage over.
19/03/2014 Our production stage had now started. We had to think a lot about what we had learnt during the
research stage and we had to create mind maps and general idea generations to gather ideas for our
adverts. After drawing these, in the same lesson we started creating our story boards.
26/03/2014 Completed my story board at this stage but was off college so couldn’t hand it in. I did my story board
in detail as I knew from the start what I wanted to base my advert around. I drew detailed black and
white pictures and wrote the timing for them and what was going to happen in each scene
2/04/2014 Handed in my storyboard and discussed with my tutor my idea and he liked it so I started planning
further. He said it looked like there was going to be good brand identity throughout and it was going
to be obvious as to what the product was I was advertising.
09/04/2014 I scanned in all of the work I drew so my detailed storyboard and my ideas generation mind map of
ideas. I then put them into the relevant blog posts and started writing about my objects of desire
which was Elyts Products.
3. 16/04/2014 Like I did in my research I then found out the codes and conventions of previous advertisements done
for the company. I had a little problem in this area as there hadn’t actually been a proper advert made
for these products. There was posters which are classes as advertisements so I used them because I
could explain similarities within the posters and what I wanted to create so it worked great. I explained
the codes and conventions and what I wanted to be similar.
23/04/2014 After this there was then my production list and a couple of other pre-production documents I
completed and posted to my blog. These were Production Schedule, Production plan, Location
Scouting Checklist, Risk Assessments and a Shooting Schedule But I hadn’t actually fully completed the
Shooting Schedule as I hadn’t shot my video yet.
4. 7/05/2014 Coming into may we had a back holiday and I planned to do my filming but I was let down by the
weather. This was obviously something unpredictable I couldn’t control. I just had to hope the
weather would be suitable for me to film and get it over with as soon as really.
14/05/2014 The following week, I filmed the shots for my video. It was absolutely the most perfect day to get
them. The weather was perfect and it just made the mise en scene 10x better because the background
and over all clip looked awesome! I filmed the clips on a Nikon DSLR camera. I had originally planned
to use a tri pod to steady out some of the clips. It wouldn’t of worked well on every clip but it was
more the clips of Jacques riding I wanted to use it for. There was a few technicalities where the tri pod
was unavailable so I just filmed it all free had. I think a lot about quality of footage I get, so I tried my
hardest to get the clips to look the best. Some clips were slightly stabilized by having them resting on
something. Like one of the first clips when Jacques is entering onto the park, the close up of his shoe,
that shot was resting on the floor and I tilted it up so it was steady. Most of the times with extreme
sport videos they go and look better when they’re not all 100% steady. As they’re always quick videos
it can start to look a bit fake. Overall all of the clips are steady but are all hand filmed. With no official
stabilizer like a tri-pod. I do think it worked so I’m happy with it. After the filming process I took my
memory card into college the following week and imported them onto the computer and checked to
see if they were good enough.
21/05/2014 I then set up a project in Adobe Premier Pro HDV 720p and 29.97 frames/second. Had a little trouble
finding a song to fit the video perfectly. I managed to find one and started my editing, didn’t finish it al
in that lesson. Then after that we were off for a week from college.
This is the audio track I chosen it’s a remix by Adventure Club of Foxes- Youth. As you can see by the
lines in the audio is where I cut the song to sound right at 30 seconds long.
5. 2/06/2014 We were back in college on this day. I carried on my edit on premier. Editing pretty much consisted of
getting all the clips into the basic story line I had planned. Then the main part was definitely the
cutting, as it was only a 30 second video it involved an awful lot of cutting. Plus I really wanted it to go
perfect with the music I had chosen. It took a lot of concentration to get it perfect. After the editing
stage was complete. I was really happy with the outcome. I then got my tutors overview and got good
feedback. Just changed one minor thing at the end of the video with the logo. Because the writing off
of the logo is dark you couldn’t see if very well because the background was dark near the letters. So I
exported the image into Photoshop and added a glow effect around it and it looked fine after that. But
that was it and everything was great! So I exported it out of Premier and onto my YouTube Channel.
4/06/2014 I uploaded it to my college YouTube channel and to my personal YouTube channel which I use in my
spare time. Like I mentioned I was so please with the outcome and I got more good feedback from my
friends especially Jacques the main feature of my video!
