1. Sales, prospecting & developing a customer base
2. Meet new people
3. Good, honest common sense advice with no pressure or
‘skin in the game’
4. It‟s the right thing to do: Win-Win, not win-lose

5. Networking is not the means to an end but intended to
grow your business
6. Because we‟ve „given up‟

7. Because sometimes you get surprises
8. To get better clients

sharing success with others, Win-Win is
created.

Contrasts with the scarcity mindset:
founded on the idea that, if someone else
wins or is successful in a situation, that
means you lose or a zero-sum game.

Individuals with „Abundance mindset‟ reject notion of a zero-sum
game and are able to celebrate the success of others rather than
feel threatened by it.
The Etiquette of Networking
1. If you network only to get something in return you lose. It doesn‟t work that way.

2. Do not expect results overnight.
3. It‟s OK to help people. Offer free professional
advice.
4. The more people you help – it comes back
eventually „ in droves‟.

5. In a first encounter with someone, establish
rapport – don‟t sell.
Everybody you know is a contact.
Who or What is a “Contact”?
Every member of your family.
Every friend of yours.
Every person in your address book or phone.
Every person you met at any party you attended in the last year or two.
Every co-worker from your last five jobs.

Every person you know at your fitness center.
Every person you know on your favorite sports team.

Every store-owner or salesperson you deal with.
Every person who comes to your apartment or house for maintenance or
repair work
Everybody you know is a contact.
Who or What is a “Contact”?
Every gas station attendant you know.
Everyone who does personal work on you: your barber, hairdresser, manicurist,
physical trainer.
The waiters, waitresses and manager of your favorite restaurant.
All the people you meet on the Internet. All the people whose eMail address
you have.
Every leisure partner you have, as for walking, exercising, swimming.
Every doctor, or medical professional you know.
Every professor, teacher, etc. you once knew

Every person in your church, synagogue, mosque, or religious gathering.
Everybody you know is a contact.
Who or What is a “Contact”?
Everyone you know in Rotary, Kiwanis, Lions, or other service organizations.
Every person you are newly introduced to.
Every person you meet, stumble across, during your job-hunt, whose name,
address and phone number you have the grace to ask for.
