1. Minamata
•In 1952 a factory in Minamata, Japan was using mercury as a catalyst.
•Mercury washed into bay.
•In 1953 fishermen and farmers showed symptoms - neurological damage
and fetal deformity etc.

2. Itai itai
• Itai-itai disease ("it hurts-it hurts disease") was the name given to the mass cadmium
poisoning of Toyama Prefecture, Japan, starting around 1912.
• The term "itai-itai disease" was coined by locals for the severe pains with the condition felt in
the spine and joints.
3. Pulmonary edema
• Pulmonary edema occurs when the pressure in blood vessels in the lung is raised because of
obstruction to the removal of blood via the pulmonary veins.
• This is usually due to failure of the left ventricle of the heart due to inhalation of toxic
chemicals like Cadmium.
4. Arsenic Poisoning
• Arsenic poisoning is related to heart disease (hypertension-related cardiovascular
disease), cancer, stroke (cerebrovascular diseases), chronic lower respiratory
diseases and diabetes.
• Skin effects can include skin cancer in the long term, but often prior to skin cancer are
different skin lesions. Other effects may include darkening of skin and thickening of skin.
5. Pulmonary Fibrosis
• Pulmonary fibrosis (literally "scarring of the lungs") is a respiratory disease in which scars are
formed in the lung tissues, leading to serious breathing problems. It can caused by toxicity of
Chromium.
• Severe toxicity leads to lung cancer.
6. Lead Palsy or Wrist-Drop
• The most common form of Lead paralysis is what is termed "wrist-drop“ or “Lead Palsy” in
which the extensor muscles of the arm/foot are paralyzed so that the patient cannot extend
his/her arm/foot or raise the wrist.
• It occurs due to Lead Poisoning.
7. Oil Spill – Genocide of Birds
• Oil can be lethally harmful to seabirds – particularly to diving birds that spend a great deal of
time on the surface of the water where the oil sits.
