2. Beyoncé
On the Friday 13th of December Beyoncé secretly
released her fifth studio album Beyoncé. The album
artwork consists of a black background with the artist’s
name front and centre of the cover in pale pink (a
feminine colour).
Although the artwork may be ordinary, the way this
album was released was far from ordinary. The album
was released as soon as it was ready and was delivered
straight to her fans. Every song on the album has its own
music video and all music videos were released at the
same time. Everyone thought that Beyoncé was crazy
releasing the album and all the music videos at once, but
it happened. This meant that fans could see the entire
album straight away and did not have to wait.
3. Unapologetic
Rihanna
On Monday the 19th of November 2012, Rihanna released
her seventh studio album Unapologetic. The album
artwork shows a nude photo of the artist, showing only
one of her many tattoos, with graffiti styled writing,
written on top of, and all over the photo in front of a
white background. The mainly white graffiti writing
contains words such as ‘Happy, Fearless, Faith, Victory
and Fun’ which suggest that these are her feelings right
now, and she is in a positive place. The title of the album
is written in white, but a black background has been
scribbled underneath to cover up the artist’s right breast.
The title of the album ‘Unapologetic’ implies that the
artist is not sorry for what has happened in her life.
4. Save Rock and Roll
Fall Out Boy
On Friday the 12th of April, Fall Out Boy released their
fifth studio album Save Rock and Roll after a four year
hiatus. On Friday the 8th of February, the band secretly
released My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark (Light
Em Up) which was part one of an eleven part series. Each
song on the new album had its own music video and all
the music videos were linked together in a story. The final
music video of the series was Save Rock and Roll
featuring Elton John which was released on Saturday the
24th of May, over a year after the first part of the series
was released.
The album artwork for Save Rock and Roll features a
‘punk and a monk’. The album artwork represents the
entire which is the idea of ‘the old clashing with the new’.
