2. Diversion
The need to escape from everyday life and to relax.
For example, you can listen to music to distract you from
your everyday life and relax.
3. Personal Relationships
People use music to fulfil their need for companionship and
to form relationships with others to fit into their social
group.
For example, you may have friends or want to be friends
with a group of people that all listen to an artist that you
don’t. You may listen to that artist in order to join in or
start a conversation with that group of people.
4. Personal Identity
We tend to sometimes use music to find out about
ourselves, sometimes people that are presented, in some
way to reflect ourselves.
For example, you could listen to an artist who sing songs
which represent your life at the time. The music you listen
to represents your personal identity.
5. Surveillance
Using music to find out what is going on around us.
For example, an artist may have released an risky music
video that everyone is talking about. You then watch the
music video to find out what everyone is talking about.
