This document outlines a plan for a music magazine cover photoshoot. It includes descriptions of the chosen cover photo, masthead font, price, date, captions, and main headline text. The cover photo was taken separately from the actual shoot because the compositions from the shoot were not suitable. The masthead font was chosen to match the magazine title "Red" and stand out to the target audience. Captions and text were designed based on research of similar magazines to appeal to fans of indie rock music.
3. Contact Sheet:
I chose this photograph for my cover because of how
it is placed, I took this photograph at a different time
than my actual photoshoot because I didn’t think the
others composition would have worked for a music
magazine cover.
This was the first photograph
I chose but her face was
slightly out of focus when I
zoomed in and also how she
was placed wouldn’t have
worked. So I decided to take
a different photograph for
my cover.
4. Mast Head
This is the font I chose for my mast head because I think it works well
because the red colour goes with the mast head word ‘red.’ Also the
text is bold and large so it stands out on the cover of the music
magazine and this font is used on other Q magazines and my
magazine has the same target audience.

Even though I like this font I don’t think it would work because of my
target audience and the research I’ve done. Other magazines with the
same genre and target audience have used bold text which stands out
and this text is the complete opposite.

6. Making the front cover:
I edited my photograph on Photoshop before adding all of the text. I cropped it down to
the size I though was right and then I changed it to black and white. I also turned the
brightness and contrast slightly up and I think the photograph looks better like this.
9. Photograph- I just used a model for this
photograph, because of her style. My
magazine is aimed at people who like indie
rock and the ‘stereotypical’ person looks like
the model with her dress sense and also her
dark eyes. The location this was taken was
against a wall, because we didn’t have a plane
colour we used her bedroom wall which has a
dark purple line across the middle. I edited
this photograph on Photoshop and made it
black and white, I did this because I think it
looked better than the original photograph.
Button- I’ve included a button which says ‘free posters’ because
when looking at other indie rock magazine I found a lot of them had
this on. This made me think it’s something that the target audience
want. Some of the magazines which included were Q and Kerrang.
I kept the magazine’s masthead 2 simple
colours which were red and black. I chose black
because the photograph is black and white and I
think it works well, I chose the red because a lot
of Q magazine’s which I was using as research
included the colour red. I also added a white
outline around the text because it wasn’t easy
to read because of her hair. It’s also an eye
catchy colour so I used it throughout my
magazine front cover. I placed it at the top of
the magazine because this is where it’s placed
on majority of music magazine of all genres
such as Top of the pop, Kerrang, Q and etc…
I’ve made it obvious this is the main headline by
making the text bigger and bolder than the
other text. I used both red and black for this like
my masthead. On Q the name was either
smaller or bigger than the text it was related to
so I tried both ways but I found ‘Exclusive
Interview’ looked better bigger than her name.
Captions- I tried a variety of different captions
to see which ones worked best and I found
these did, on a lot of magazines I’ve researched
have included things like ‘festival/gig guides’ so
I included both of these on mine. I’ve used the
same font but different sizes because on one of
the magazine’s I was looking at used text in this
way so I made the largest words the most
important for example ‘Festival.’ The style of
language I’ve used is appealing to my target
audience for example ‘gig’ my target audience
doesn’t use slang as such but they do use
certain words like this. I’ve kept the same
colour theme throughout. Also the font is bold
and eye catchy, especially the most important
words for example ‘Gigs’ ‘festival.’
Cost- I researched costs of other magazines
like mine for example Q and Kerrang, I found
they were around £2. Both of these magazines
are the same target audience so it shown me
the price range of there type of magazines.
