2. Who was “Tim Burton”
Timothy Walter ,Tim Burton was born
August 25th, 1958 is an American film
director, film producer, writer, artist and
animator. He is famous for his dark, gothic,
macabre and quirky take on horror and
fantasy style movies such as – Beetlejuice,
Edward Scissor hands, Sleepy Hollow, The
Nightmare Before Christmas, Corpse Bride,
Sweeney Todd, Dark Shadow and The
Demon Barber of Fleet Street

3. Auteur style
When watching film openings that Tim Burton has
directed, you can automatically spot the techniques
used and the unique style he portrays. Most of his
film openings are full of tension and suspense, for
example, there is a lot of jump cutting to different
angles of the characters which helps build up
tension. Usually the beginning credits sequence has
the camera going through something or following
something. Through-out his movies openings you
are able to notice that the lighting that Tim Burton
chose is very dark which makes you get more
engrossed in the film and makes you feel like there
is something terrible about to happen. The themes
are repeated in quiet a lot of Tim burton’s movie
openings.

4. Beetle Juice (1988)
The opening consists of an extreme
longshot with credits appearing in front of a
pan of a forest in extreme in longshot. The
shot is accompanied by non diegetic sound,
which relatively high pitched and has a fast
tempo. All this adds tension. Lighting isn’t
medium, meaning not very dark or very
bright.

5. Edward Scissorhands
The opening of Edward Scissorhands is quite
complex. The camera weirdly pans and follows
in medium close ups and swirls around and over
the objects .The lighting is dark the only light
there is, is used to illuminate the objects the
camera is either following or panning upon. Of
course it wouldn’t be a Tim Burton movie without
credits, so there is opening credits that are in
front of the camera and other objects most of
the time. There is non diegetic sound, music that
is slow and slightly creepy. High pitched and
slow. It helps grow the tension that Tim Burton is
trying to create

6. The Nightmare Before
Christmas
The intro to The Nightmare Before Christmas is
quite complicated. It starts off with non diegetic
sound of music and a narrator. Neither are
particularly horrifying . The camera pas around
and then enters a tree. After this it is dark and
the mood changes drastically. Diegetic sounds
and non diegetic sound. Music high pitched, call
and response. Characters such as vampires,
werewolves and skeletons singing, lighting is
dark upon graves. The camera switches cuts
quick. There are also a variety of different shots,
such as extreme long shots, medium close ups,
close ups and extreme close ups.
