Monteverde Cloud Forest
Biological Reserve:
• Biological reserve located in Puntarenas province
is 6 km east of the town of Santa Elena.
• There is more humidity and is therefore cloudier
than a rainforest.
• Elevation of between 1,200 m to 1,600 m. Cloud
Forest Reserve covers an area of 26,000 acres
(10,522 hectares)
• Home to more than 2,000 species of plants and
trees
•100 species of mammals
• over 400 species of birds
• Roughly 1,200 species of amphibians and reptiles.
• More than 300 species of orchids and 200 species
of fern

Arenal Volcano & Hot Springs:
• The Arenal Volcano is an active volcano were lava
streams down the side (its no harm to anyone in the
town) but it looks amazing at night.
• The Tabacon hot springs, is a place were you can
go to unwind and relax and watch he view of the
volcano at night.

Breakfast
Costa Ricans have a wide varitey of things to start off the day eating.
Things like; Chorreadas (corn pancakes), A la Ranchera, Corn flakes
with banana slices,
Lunch
the traditional national dish is called a casado. Made of rice and
beans served side by side instead of mixed. There will usually be
some type of meat (fish, pork chop or chicken) and a salad to round
out the dish.
Dinner
Costa Ricans enjoy beef at supper time. Usually accompanied by rice
and black beans. Sometimes with steamed vegetables on the side.
Deserts
Queque seco- (Dry Cake) Is made like pound cake and enjoyed as a
desert. Usually with a cup of coffee. As Costa Rica is famous for its
coffee exports.
7. CUSTOMS AND TRADITIONS/DANCE.
Dance
“Suin Criollo” by reinterpreting the lindy dancing and swing steps from
the US,
“La Yegüita” folkloric dance to represent an old tradition of having a
man dressed as a horse in a religious procession.
Customs
Virgen de los Angeles: This is a celebration, honors the patron saint the
Virgin of Angels. She came to a young girl from Cartago many times as a
small stone statue and asked her to build a church in her honor
Easter Week: Called Semana Santa, this is a mixture of church
celebrations and family party.
Lighting up the Christmas tree: The most important Christmas tree in
Costa Rica is the tree of the Children's National Hospital.
Festivals & Holidays
March 19th: St. Joseph’s Day, patron saint of San Jose and San Jose
province.
August 15th: Mother’s Day and Assumption Day
November 2nd: All soul’s Day
December 25th: Christmas Day. Family-oriented celebrations with trips
to the beach. Much consumption of apples and grapes.

THE OXCARTS OF SARCHÍ
Oxcarts were used to transport coffee beans to Puntarenas these
decorated carts are amazing a well made reproduction can cost up to
$5,000. Costa rica is famous for these. If it is possible to get tone of
these then get one they are so cool.
