2010 Winter Fellowship
Coach, Role Model, Hero Sports is a valuable tool to reach children where there at.  Bring It In – Israel recruits and trains young Jewish athletes and coaches, teaching them how to use sports to connect children to Israel and share their personal Israel experience.  The Bring It In - Israel Fellowship combines formal training in sports based youth development and Israel education, with hands on in the field training running sports education days for Israeli youth from around Israel. “I have had many coaches that      helped shape who I am today.”                 BII Fellow 10’ Judah Batist www.Bringitinisrael.com
Selection Criteria 	The Bring It In - Israel Fellowship was open to young Jews from North America on Long Term Israel programs.	 	Fellows were selected based on their involvement as leaders in the Jewish community, and on their achievements as athletes and youth coaches.  	16 Fellows applied and 8 were selected. “When I first heard about this program, my ears immediately perked up. The Bring It In – Israel 2010 Winter Fellowship was composed of 4 American and 4 Canadian Fellows from 5 different Long Term Israel Programs: Aardvark Israel, Career Israel, Real Life Israel, Pardes, and Young Judaea Year Course. Orientation Professional Development Session 1 Fellows participated in the Bring It In – Israel orientation session at the Tel Aviv SporTech where they learned drills, games, and the philosophy of Israel Sports education. www.Bringitinisrael.com
Wingate Institute Basketball Professor Professional Development Session 2 Vito Gilic  - Lectures at Tel Aviv University  and The Wingate Institute  Fellows participated in practice  	run in Hebrew and English. Drills incorporated teamwork,      skill development, and creative thought. 	Q & A Covering: Coaching in Israel, discipline, and how to emphasize winning in a positive way. Professional Development Session 3 Event Management, Execution, & Evaluation Danny Ourian - New York Knicks Community Relations Clinic and Event Staff Coach Ourian Sound Bites “Be a people person. Everyone you meet can be        helpful to you.” “Engage individuals even when you are    engaging the whole group, make eye contact” “Be genuinely excited about what you are    doing. Kids can read it and feed off it      accordingly.” “Dress and act as a professional coach, there will be eyes on you, both children and adults.” www.Bringitinisrael.com
Professional Development Session 4 How To Tell Their Story  David Kramer -  Founder of The NU Campaign Kramer spoke to the Fellows about the power of a story. Fellows learned about The NU Campaign and the causes on the shirts with the story of the cause inside. Kramer encouraged Fellows to find and hone  their own personal stories from their experience  during the Bring It In – Israel Fellowship.  Youth Development Professional Development Session 5 Tomer Rubin - Israeli Youth Basketball Coach Lead the fellows through the activities that make up a practice. Fellows learned fun and engaging drills that keep children moving while honing their fundamental skills. Coach Rubin taught fellows how to adapt basketball drills to other sports. Positive coaching: How to communicate with children; Problems to look out for during drills.  www.Bringitinisrael.com
In The Field Through in the field training Fellows gained 	 the opportunity to put what they learned to practice. Fellows coached over 360 Israeli children from different backgrounds, connecting with Israeli children from all over the country. Leading the Way     In field training days gave Fellows the opportunity to:  Master the Bring It In – Israel activities that make up the curriculum. Hone Hebrew sports vocabulary in the field. Work as coaching teams, dividing responsibilities, and working off each other’s strengths. Working with Professional Israeli Basketball Teams Two Fellows intern with Hapoel Jerusalem and BneiHasharon Israeli Men’s Professional Basketball teams. Fellows ran community outreach educational sports days with players from Barak Netanya Israeli Men’s Professional Team. www.Bringitinisrael.com
Bring It In – Israel Team Bring It In – Israel is committed to:  	Provide past Fellows ongoing online professional development through materials posted to the Fellow Intranet. 	Assist Fellows to organize their initial Israel sports education days. 	Market Fellows as Israel Sports educators.  	Create a global network of Israel Sports Educators.  Fellows have committed to running Israel Sports Education activities in their communities at Hebrew schools, youth group, and summer camp. www.Bringitinisrael.com
Play It ForwardFellows will run Israel Sports Education Days in their communities “I am excited to take the skills from the  Bring It In – Israel Fellowship and apply them to  various activities at my Summer Camp.” 			Judah Batist:  Camp Ramah Canada "I learned a great deal from the fellowship about teaching sports to kids and incorporating Israel and Jewish elements into the activities.  I will definitely use  the games, drills, and coaching techniques that I picked up through BII at camp this summer and even beyond."   • 12. Leading the Way In field training days gave Fellows the opportunity to: Master the Bring It In – Israel activities that make up the curriculum. Hone Hebrew sports vocabulary in the field. Work as coaching teams, dividing responsibilities, and working off each other’s strengths.   • 14. Bring It In – Israel Team Bring It In – Israel is committed to: Provide past Fellows ongoing online professional development through materials posted to the Fellow Intranet. Assist Fellows to organize their initial Israel sports education days. Market Fellows as Israel Sports educators. Create a global network of Israel Sports Educators.
