2. About the movie
Eteros ego (2016) is a crime thriller with mystery, exciting riddles and many
mathematical references, made by Sotiris Tsafoulias. The main character is
an eccentric forensic scientist and professor, named Dimitris, who helps
the police authorities demystify a series of interrelated murders. The key
role has a maths professor, played by François Cluzet, who helps Dimitris
solve the mystery and discover the truth behind all these murders.
4. Mathematical references
The mathematical references that help the main character find the killer is
the theory of amicable numbers (also known as friendly numbers),
explained by the maths professor in the movie. They are two different
numbers so related that the sum of the proper divisors of each is equal to
the other number.
220 and 284 is the smallest pair of amicable numbers and it’s the pair used
in the movie.
