Lesson 1
If your project isn't
working out, don't worry
yourself sick; there will be
new priorities next year.
Never take on an IT
project. Never. Ever.
Read this one out loud
and repeat.
When in Doubt, Just Ask Yourself:
"What Would Sue Do?"

Lactation pads in vending
machines is an idea
whose time has come.
Enough said.
You can’t make a
silk purse out of a
sow’s ear so it’s best
not to even try.
To play the system
always ask for more
than what is actually
needed.
If you have any
questions, go ask
Larry. And good
luck with that.

Lessons We LearnedSue has been an amazing partner these past years—her skill at spanning
strategy to detailed execution, including the inevitable issue management
along the way, is incredible and has been instructive to me directly.
Through all the organization changes these past years, wherever we sit,
whoever are our new colleagues, I always get really positive feedback re
Sue’s contributions and skills. I will miss her greatly!

I met Sue on my 1st day 17 years ago.
She has always been the person I go to when I’m in a crisis. She will:
1) Tell me it couldn’t possibly be my fault,
2) Provide an example of how it could be much, much worse
3) Find a way to spin it so it seems positive instead of negative,
4) Make me laugh
5) Give me the strength to go & tackle whatever lies ahead.
I proposed a summer plan where she can lounge at my pool & I will
bring her frozen drinks in exchange for crisis management!

Dear Sue,
You have been such an
amazing boss here at
WellPoint and I only wish we
could have spent more years
together. You are so
personable, helpful, smart and
fun. You were always
available to help me, no
matter how small or
insignificant my problem; you
have been a wonderful
resource. I wish you the best
in your future and please,
keep in touch!!

When I need inspiration,
pragmatism, problem
solving, or quick wit to
diffuse a tense situation, I’ll
channel Sue sporting my
WWSD? duct tape bracelet.
If that doesn’t work, I’m
hoping she’ll leave her
contact information and
dole out advice seaside
sipping margaritas.
Sue, thank you for your
service, partnership and
friendship. You will be sorely
missed.

Dear Sue,
I never worked closely with
you during most of your
years at Anthem, but where
we know common people,
the relationships were always
with utmost respect to your
knowledge and experience
and, most importantly, as a
person. I wish you the very
best with the new chapter in
your life!
