Executing a legacy migration project for a
regional grocery store chain
////////////////////////////////////////
Situation
A regional grocery store chain was facing a
transformational legacy migration project
critical to business operations and the
modernization of its relationship with
its customers. Executive leadership put
extreme pressure on the IT organization
to meet very aggressive timelines. The
project directly impacted mainframe
systems and required a new API services
layer with consumer applications and
the client lacked the ability to get it done
in-house. Expecting a minimum of nine
months of development and needing a
technology partner who could get the
project to market as fast as possible, the
client came to Magenic.
Solution
Magenic’s ability to apply velocity to any
project environment was put to the test
in order to deliver a solution for the
client. The engagement called for the
addition of numerous resources in order
to meet the project goals and deadlines
laid out by the client.
Utilizing a distributed workforce, Magenic
was able to rapidly deploy a significant
number of skilled managers, analysts,
designers, developers, and testers to get
software development started as quickly
as possible. By significantly increasing
development speed using the Magenic
Foundation Agile process, the business
continued to challenge the team to
accelerate shorter and shorter deadlines.
The velocity introduced by Magenic not only applied to the project specifically,
but to the entire client portfolio as a whole.
Results
Instead of an expected nine-month
engagement, the project went into
production in five months. As a
vitally important competitive system
in the marketplace, the speed in
delivery significantly helped the
client improve market share.
After working closely with the
client for five months, Magenic
enabled continued acceleration
of its roadmap of projects,
introducing more mission critical
applications. The client was
brought up to common digital
practices and beyond with a much
more dynamic, responsive, and
efficient IT organization.
